Finally got the official word that my Stage III is now Stage IV. My family doctor was not encouraging about hospice, and only wanted me to have more specialists and tests.  When I was first diagnosed 2 years ago with stage 3, I made my decision and my daughter concurred with it that when the cancer did return or spread, I did not want further treatment.  I have had 2 good years.  I live alone, having been divorced many years now.  My daughter is happily married, with 4 beautiful children.  She does however live 5 hours away.  Hospice is the solution for me.  I have friends locally who can help.  Pain meds and oxygen/breathing treatments are working to keep symptoms at bay.  As I need more services, they are available.  Just want to let you know how flexible hospice care is for those of us who tend to be independent folk.  I have enough time to get my affairs in order, comfortable and pain free.

hello, rita47. I think you have managed to achieve management of your life and control over what is happening to you. It is reassuring to know that that can be done, rather than just be buffeted about by other people's wellintentioned decisions and hopes. I admire you and am grateful to you. thank you.

    ladies,

Rita made only 3 posts to bco and has not signed in since 2013. Whatever has happened since then, I hope she left this world in comfort and peace.
