Hi guys

Last week my mother(F,54) felt lump in her right breast, then she got memo and FNAC done as advised by doctor. Report says

Cellular smears, comprising of crowded sheets, cohesive clusters and dissociated tumor cells

Glandular pattern is evident at places

Cells are large, moderately pleomorphic, with high N:C ratio, irregular, hyperchromatic nuclei and coarse chromatin, numerous bare tumor nuclei, occasional tumor giant cells and mitotic figure noted

Backgound is haemorrhagic with fat globules, positive for malignant

IMPRESSION: RIGHT BREAST LUMP-CONSISTENT WITH DUCTAL CARCINOMA,INTERMEDIATE NUCLEAR GRADE(CATEGORY 5)

i am scared whether it is curable ? what does category C5 mean? and what this report says?

Doctor has asked to visit after 3 days to explain report, but i just can't wait.

Please help me in understanding this report.

Hi lnkrohilla! First of all we just wanted to welcome you to Breastcancer.org, and let you know that we're so glad you've found our community.

Understanding the pathology report is not easy, we know, so hopefully you'll get responses from other experienced members here that will help you with all those terms and numbers. In the meantime you and your mom may find helpful to read through the section called Breast Cancer 101, designed for those newly diagnosed to help understand test results, the individual characteristics of the cancer, recommended treatments, and more.

Best wishes for you and your mom!
