I met with my surgeon today and scheduled my lumpectomy with SNB for January 12th. I have DCIS with grade 3 - that's why he wants to do SNB.

I think the final pathology report and the possibility of my diagnosis turning out to be worse than what it is now scare me more than the surgey itself.

I have to get up early for work tomorrow, but I can't seem to be able to pry myself from reading this discussion board. I'm glad I found you

Vanmama -- sounds like your surgery went well! Yep, it's cold here, too. Stay warm and take it easy!

JeniferE -- hope your surgery goes well today! Will be thinking of you.....

CassieCat -- sounds like you're ready -- massage therapist idea is interesting -- let us know what that entails!

sunseta -- yes, things often move quickly once you're diagnosed. If you're getting a lumpectomy, that surgery isn't really very complicated. So, it's not surprising that you haven't received much in the way of pre-op instructions. My lumpectomy/node removal is next Monday, and my breast care center has given me minimal instructions. If I want more information, I will email my nurse navigator.

Hello to all of you! shaz101- my BMX is scheduled for January 20th! What time is your surgery scheduled? Mine is at 1pm (in the US EST) I will be thinking of you on that date.

BBwithBC45- I have DCIS high grade w/ comedonecrosis. I too am scared of what could be found once the BMX and SNB pathology is done. I'll be thinking of you on the 12th.

To ALL- I thank all that have been through surgery as now you can explain to all of us that are waiting what your experiences have been like. I have gathered strength from all of you. And to all that are awaiting surgery I send positive thoughts your way! Lots of BIG hugs!

    Hi,

I got my surgery date. January 16 for BMX and TUG reconstruction. Getting very nervous about the reconstruction piece and the long surgery. Starting to have some second thoughts about it, but I guess that's normal?

Vanmama: Great to hear your surgery is over and you are doing well

Cassiecat: Sending good thoughts your way for your surgery on Friday.

I won't be joining the January Surgery's after all. Mine is scheduled for February 2nd. I do wish you all the best though! And I talked to my nurse navigator for about 45 minutes this morning which definitely helped a lot.

I got home earlier today. I've taken an UNINTERRUPTED nap! A friend brought over potato soup and cherry pie, which really hit the spot.

I really haven't had the pain I anticipated. My drains are draining nicely.

    Life is good!

I'm so glad all went well and that you got a well earned long winter's nap.  Not to mention potato soup and cherry pie (with vanilla icecream?).  Gosh, this is better fare than a tonsillectomy.

Gentle cyber hugs and sweet dreams.

Vanmama: glad to hear you are recovering comfortably and getting some yummy comfort food on top of it all....its 5 degrees here in MO and I know you said it was even colder where you are...comfort food and a warm bed feel awesome in this weather.

JeniferE: hope all went well today and you are home soon resting and healing.

Well I had my first official meltdown tonight with my husband. I've had a few before but let it out on the boards or just dealt with it but tonight it all came crashing in. I don't think my hubby gets how upsetting this surgery can be nor why I would be upset. The whole way I look is changing but he sees that as "not important." He means that well.. He means he just wanted me to be OK. I really just needed him to listen as I ranted.... Which he did...I feel better but can't wait till I can just get it over already... The waiting is killing me...I guess I had a little ranting left in me...lol... Hugs to everyone and goodnight.

Vanmama, I'm happy to hear you are doing well. It's truly a blessing to have friends and family for support. Did you end up having BMX or just left MX?

    JustAmy, big hug to you.

Well I will not be having my surgery today after all. I came down sick two days ago, and it has been hell. I went to the ER yesterday desperately hoping that some iv's could turn things around, but it didn't. I went straight from the ER to outpatient to get my sn injection. While waiting I was throwing up the whole time, my nurse navigator showed up and we both agreed that I just wasn't well enough to go through with it today. This is not the flu as I was tested for that. I believe it was a migraine that brought all this on. As of right now, I stii have a small headache and have not had anything to eat in two days. Hopefully I can get rescheduled for next week.

Glad you are doing well Vanmama

AnotherLife -- Oh no! What a disappointment. Hope you feel better soon and can get rescheduled for next week. Ugh.

Vanmama -- Wow! A nap! I can't remember the last time I had one of those around here. My DH manages to take a nap sometimes, though. Lucky. Great to hear that you're doing so well.

Justamy -- often, men mean well but they don't really know how they come off. Sorry you had to rant, but maybe DH will be more understanding in the future.

AnotherLife, I'm so sorry. I get migraines too. I can empathize. I hope you can get your surgery rescheduled as quickly as possible.

Amy, I am anticipating a meltdown today. My last day with my left breast, with looking normal. Well, bald and normal, that is. ;) Be good to yourself. Our husbands do mean well, and we're lucky to have them. ButI don't want to be disfigured, and that's what tomorrow is going to do. My body will be visibly changed. Hopefully any active cancer cells will be gone, too.

Good luck CassiCat. I hope all goes well with your surgery, and we all need a good melt down occasionally. I find them therapeutic through this.

I just wanted to clear something up. I said in my previous post that I had to "rant." That was not the right word at all. I meant that I cried and sort of fell apart in front of my husband. He listened and did his best to be supportive. He didn't know what to say. He is my rock and always there for me. I couldn't have made it this far without him. Chalk up my poor word choice to chemo brain....lol.

I had a few of those earlier in chemo, but it's been a while since I've completely broken down. I hope I don't tonight, but I have to admit I'm pretty scared for tomorrow.

    Hi Ladies,

I am scheduled for a BMX and sentinel node dissection on the right side, with immediate reconstruction (expanders), on Monday Jan 12th. I am 33, 3 kids, no family history. My diagnoses is intraductal Carcinoma with cancerization of the lobuals. I was originally scheduled for a lumpectomy in Nov but after my MRI they found a new 5cm tumor which came back positive. As of now my Dr. doesn't believe I will need chemo or radiation, unless something shows up in my lymph nodes. Here is wishing you all the best, you will all be in my prayers.

AnotherLife, I'm sorry about the bump in the road. Hope you feel better soon! I have migraines too but not to the point of throwing up. You are right about melt down being therapeutic. A good cry every so often helps us to rid ourselves of the emotions we bottle up inside. Get some rest.

CassieCat, hang in there. Only best wishes for you.

Bklopp, sorry you have to join us. I think at least 5 of us are scheduled to have surgery that day.

Thank you LoverofLife. Well I just got the call that I have been rescheduled for next Thursday January 15th. Another week of sleepless nights and stress. I know I should be thankful that they can get me in that soon, but crap, I was ready for it to be over today. Oh well, this too shall pass. :/

I did have a bilateral mastectomy. My insurance had no trouble approving it. They told me the lymph nodes weren't involved, which was quite a surprise.

Vanmama, you are one tough cookie....BMX with manageable pain!! Happy to hear the wonderful surprise of nolymph nodes involvement.

Shellym1-four of us (Bklopp, Elaine Therese, BBwithBC45, and myself) will be joining you. Hope I didn't miss anyone else. Try to remember to take a deep breath, my friend. Hoping for favorable pathology results for everyone.

JeniferE, Revup65, and Morning Glory--hope you ladies are doing well with minimal pain.
