Pet scan?

my mom is almost at her 15yr mark in remission. She found a lump under Her arm (armpit area) and had an u/s. They didn't call with any results but that she needed to go for a PET scan the next morning. Her general practitioner is ordering the tests. Why would they have ordered a pet scan? Does that mean it's cancer?

Sounds to me like the Dr is being proactive. That is a good thing!

Pet scan is for a better look and measure the metabolic (I think that's it) uptake. I'd say it's a good thing to get the scan, but it means the ultrasound wasn't definitive. If she's claustrophobic, talk to your doc about taking something.
