Fibroadenoma in Other Breast?
October 2013 My mom (age 70 at the time) needed a mammogram. It had been over 15 years since she had her first /last/only mam. My dr. Had reccommended I get a baseline mammogram 6 months prior but I didnt think I needed to. I was 36, had no issues except weird red dots in my breast that really never went away. Mom didnt want to get her Mam so I said I would get mine if she got hers and so we had a mother daughter boobie check.
At the time I was about to have a lumpectomy for a very LARGE benign tumor on the bottom of my ass cheek. I was not worried about the baseline mammogram. I was 36 and (thought) I had no family history of BC.
2 days after my lumpectomy to remove larry the ass lump- I got a call and letter stating that MY mam was abnormal. Not my 70 year old mom that smokes and drank her whole life....but MINE.
So I did the Diagnostic mam, and ultrasound. Radiologist came in and said he did not know what it was....it was not fluid...it was solid but did not have smooth borders. It was scattered thru the breast tissue. He said without family history and being only 36- it was probanly benign....then he said if I were his sister he would rush me to get a biopsy. I went from Birads 0 to Birads 4. So I got the US guided core biosy and titanium clip. Biopsy came back Fibroadenoma. Yes! 6 month to check up. 3 months later (February 2014) my RIGHT breast started acting wierd. The bottom of the nipple swelled up and the nipple was hard abd pointed down. Under the nipple deep in the breast I kinda felt a pea sized lump.
It wasnt until this whole breast ordeal that I learned that therw IS Breast cancer in my family history! My fathers Mother (Paternal grandmother) died from Breast Cancer in her 50's. My fathers sister also died from breast cancer in her 30's. My fathers other sister died from cancer but they do not know if it was breast cancer that spread to lungs or lun cancer that spread to breasts. His youngest sister died from cancer that started under the brest tissue on her rib.
In February 2014 I had a diagnostic mam and U/S if the right breast. Tech said it was clear but she did feel the lump. I was told to keep an eye on it and report any changes.
June 2014 I did my 6 month follow up on the right breast with the Fibroadenoma. Came back good.
December 2014- The left breast lump is very noticable now. I no longer have to search and pose in a twister position to find it....it is just THERE. It does not change with my cycle...it is always there.
I went to the Doc. I hate going to the doctor. I am in desperate need for a GYN appointment that I have been putting off for 3 years now. Doc knows I need to go but keep putting it off so he suggested tgat I go to the GYN to deal with the breast. He figured that he knows I am worried about the breast and figured this would FORCE me to go to the GYN to take care of everything.
I told myself I would call after new year. Well, I guess he didnt have faith that I would get it worked out because I got a call from a breast surgeon this week. They said my doc called them, sent my breast records and told them i needed an appointment and told them THEY needed to CALL me to schedule it. So I made the appointmnet. The Breast surgeon asked if I was also interested in discussing removing the fibroadenoma.
So my appointment is Jan 20.
Here are my questions:
1- Is it likely this is also a Fibroadenoma?
2- Are Fibroadenomas genetic?
3-Can Fibroadenomas develop into cancer?
4- Should I have the right breast Fibroadenoma removed?
Thank you for all your help

1.Could be. Biopsy is the only way to know
2.No
3.No. They do however pose an increased risk of breast cancer , about 1 1/2- 2 times that of women with no breast changes
4. I would
