Hi Brend,
So sorry to read about what ;you are going through.
I agree with what someone else wrote -- tomorrow call the hospital's: social worker, nurse navigator for breast cancer.
They need to help you in this situation. They need to contact the appropriate resources.
This is really not acceptable to have you dealing with breast cancer, surgery, AND the at home details just because you live alone.
I just called your local American Cancer Society phone number which is: 251-344-9856. they are closed now. they should have some resources to help you.

Hi Brend,
I reread your post -- so if I have the correct info, this is what i found. the nurse navigator at Mitchell cancer Institute, Mobile AL is: cathy Tinnea. Here is the info I found:

Patient Navigation Services
Helping others in their journey to new hope.
At MCI, we strive to make our outstanding services as patient-friendly and accessible as possible. To assist patients, MCI offers patient navigation services to help them through their journey to recovery. The goal of patient navigation is to empower the patient, provide resources and access to supportive care services, and to help patients move through the complexities of the medical system. A navigator serves as a single point of contact for referring physicians, patients and caregivers. At MCI, our mission is to ensure timely patient access to appropriate cancer care offering education, support and guidance to help patients and families cope with the challenges of cancer.
Smoother transitions across all phases of care translate into fewer delays in treatment, improved communication between caregivers, and less confusion for the patient and family. The program is led by nurse navigator Cathy Tinnea. Our navigators are trained to provide assistance with psycho-social support and refer to appropriate resources as needed.
Community resources include assistance with financial concerns, transportation, translation services, support groups, coping elements, chaplain, home care services, lymphedema therapy, access to American Cancer Society programming, and Hospice Care.
To speak to a Patient Navigator about your cancer care, call (251) 445-9802.
If you are 65 years old and older, and currently on Medicaid, you may be a candidate for Patient Care Connect.
For more information about the Patient Care Connect program, click here.
To speak to a Patient Navigator about your cancer care, call (251) 445-9802I think you should call them, first thing, and have them help you. Read what they wrote - they should help you with this.

I agree that you need someone to stay with you. I insisted on a sponge bath the next morning to get off the yellow antiseptic (iodine?) and nearly passed out and I was sitting down. Thankfully my daughter was there to pull me out of the tub. Not sure I could have done much w/o her the next day. You also have no idea how you will react to all the meds you get during surgery.
This is not the time to prove how tough you are. It's time to accept the help of others.

Sending good wishes your way. Drinking some lovely coffee, too. ; )
For what it's worth, I went home alone after my port placement, and I was by myself all weekend. Stocked up on canned soup and fruit. I was fine.

Glad to hear you have someone with you tonight, Brend. Best wishes for an easy recovery.
