    I'm 45. In early December went for screening mammo which showed "architectural distortion" in the left breast. Was told it was probably nothing but should get additional pictures, which lead to ultrasound.

    Radiologist said that there were some "suspicious changes" and I could "wait and see" or have biopsy. Wait and see?? Wait for what? So, I had my biopsy done on New Year's Eve, in the morning. I was told to expect the results this Tuesday or I could even try to call the surgeon's office tomorrow (Monday) afternoon.

    My gynecologist went into his office today (Sunday), because he has jury duty tomorrow. While in his office, he happened upon my results and so I got the dreaded phone call from him a few hours ago.

    I have DCIS grade III with both hormone receptors negative. That's all I know for now. I will be calling my surgeon's office tomorrow. Tomorrow can't come soon enough for me. :(

    In the last few hours I have been crying, reading this message board, reading up on DCIS. I am scared.

    I've had two biopsies in the past years on the other side though, and both were negative. Years ago I had some bloody discharge from my left breast, and I think they just did mammo on it, and it was normal.

    I have been having aches in my left arm and shoulder, and chest, which now seem stronger - could be just anxiety?

    Now I'm just rambling, sorry. I'm just very anxious.

    I'm new to all this too (diagnosed nov.29) so I know how scared you are. I've have learned a lot from this website as well as received a lot emotional support. Others who know more than I will be along soon to share their stories and diagnoses. Just saw your post and wanted you to know you're in good company here. The more I learn, the anxiety starts to decrease a little. Everyone here says once a treatment plan is in place it gets much better. Thinking of you and sorry you have to be here. Hugs.

    I'm new to this too, diagnosed December 16th, and its so scary. I'm further along then you because I have met with my surgeon and started a plan. I just wanted to say that I get bad shooting pains in my left Breast and in my arm and I think it's just cyclic. It's my right Breast that has the DCIS and I feel no symptoms. I'm sure your arm and chest pain has an anxiety piece to it, I do the same thing. I'm sorry you have joined us

    So sorry about your news but welcome to BCO and glad you found this safe site where you'll get valuable.

    As stated above, once a treatment plan is in place most people feel better as they can regain some feeling of control. At the moment you feel overwhelmed and scared and that is understandable.

    Besides sharing your experiences and learning from other members here at the boards, you may also want to take a look at the Breast Cancer 101section from the main site, which is designed to help you sort through all of the information on our site to find what is more relevant to you right now.

    Hello BBwithBC45. I too was diagnosed with DCIS grade 3 with comedonecrosis in my right breast the day before Thanksgiving. I'm 43. I have made the decision to have a bilateral mastectomy on January 20th due to a VERY strong family history. I have no gene mutations yet my sister has the BRCA 1 mutation and was diagnosed with Stage 3 when she was 27 yrs. old. She is here 11 yrs. later with 3 beautiful children! She is my rock to lean on. (I never thought me the Big sister would have to do this)

    I understand your fear and anxiety. A lot of unknowns really. As others have said take it one day at a time. I have cried too as I read the message boards yet get a lot of comfort from these wonderful women.

    I have had pains in my right breast on/off for the last 2 yrs. and have always felt like "something was wrong with it." Just hang in there and feel free to PM me. It's always comforting to talk to someone who's going through the same thing.

    Welcome BBwithBC45 - this is an amazing site with wonderful women who will share their experience with you.  When first diagnosed, it is really frightening - all the unknowns, etc. 

    Everyone is different but the way I worked thru this whole BC was:

    One step at a time.  Focus on one thing.  I found that if I got too far ahead of myself, I felt too out of control.  When I was told I needed a biopsy, that is all I focused on BUT I did a lot of research on the biopsy.  When it moved onto lumpectomy, I did the same thing - my entire focus was on the lumpectomy.  Same with radiation.

    You will get to know us very quickly out here.  It is certainly an emotional roller coaster.

    Hi BBwithBC45! You and I share the same DX. I was diagnosed on Halloween. I have had an ultrasound, MRI, two Steriotactic biopsies, one lumpectomy with another scheduled for 1/15. Talk about a roller coaster! But, 6 years ago, my teenage daughter was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Her Drs told us that if you had to have cancer, that was the cancer have! She is fine now. We just celebrated her 5th year in remission. Well, my Dr. Said that very same thing to me, If I had to get Breast Cancer, this was the type to get. So I am looking forward to my own 5 year celebration !

    Hang in there! This is a bump in the road and we will both be fine! <<strength>

    Yesterday I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ with a nuclear grade of 2 of 3  ERsq was positive with greater than 90% showing and PRsq was positive with 20% showing moderate to strong nuclear staining. Today I met with a surgeon and we talked a bit about options, but she wants to do an mri to see if it has spread anywhere else. I am scared and don't know where to turn. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

    Hello Lisa, so glad you found us! You're at the very scary, waiting phase, it is brutal and everyone here understands, just how you're feeling.

    Your Doctor is being very thorough, do you have your MRI booked yet?

    Come here often, stay away from Dr Google, it will just scare you silly. There is a lot of excellent information on DCIS here and there are many of us who have had a similar Dx to you.

    I am 35 and had my first mammogram 2 weeks ago because I found a lump. My mammogram came back with 2 questionable calcification spots. Sent for a core needle biopsy on the 2 spots On tuesaday. I found out that I have dcis there is one cell that could be considered micro invasive but it isn't there yet (?) . I go next friday for a lumpectomy and a lymph node removal on my left breast. Super worried but have a positive attitude beings I have 4 kids at home.
