Hello all! I am new and trying to learn about treatment after bilateral mastectomy. I see my oncologist this coming Wednesday, Jan 7th. I had bilateral mastectomy done Dec 18, with expanders for future reconstruction. Started out with 3 drains, now 2 JP drains still in. Invasive ductal carcinoma with 13 mm tumor. Grade 3. With DCIS in large ducts. I had lymph node involvement. 10 nodes taken, 1 sentinal node was positive for metastatic cancer. Staging pT1c, pN1a. Wondering of anyone has a similar diagnosis and what treatment you had. My surgeon says radiation and chemo are very possible.

    Hi Issamarie,

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I too was diagnosed with IDC stage 2a grade 3 tumor that was 3.5cm. I had a bilateral mastectomy on nov 12/14.

I just met with my oncologist last week (haven't started it yet) and she originally wanted to do 6 months of chemo broken into 2 parts. The first 3 months would have been adriamycin and cyclophosphamide (1 round every 3 weeks) and then 3 months of docetaxel (1 round every week).

Since adriamycin could possibly cause leukaemia (both my mom and my grandpa on my dad's side had it) it was agreed the risk would be too great so we have now opted to do 3 months of the cyclo and doce (1 round every 3 weeks). This option increases my chance of reoccurrence by about 3% so the trade off is well worth it.

I hope this helps and good luck!!!

Hi - I have Stage 1 with a 1.8 on one side, but since I have dense breasts am opting for bilateral as well... It's my understanding that with lymph node involvement definitely chemo and possibly radiation. How is your recovery going? Take care.
