Mom 71 newly diagnosed

I posted a thread in newly diagnosed, but found this forum.  So this is a double post, hope that is okay.

My mom, 71 was dx Dec. 4th with invasive ductal cancer.  It was DCIS, but has spread outside the duct. It is very strong HER2 +, ER +, PG -,3 cm, grade 3?, Stage IIA.  MRI does not show in nodes, but I realize this may not be accurate.  Surgeon, who mom really likes, seems to be very pro perjeta.  She does have an immune disorder, Sarcoidosis, arthritis, and some other health issues like high blood pressure, palpitations, etc.  The ONC is leaning towards surgery first since she wants a mastectomy anyway.  He does not seem to think that perjeta is any better than Herceptin with success rates in relation to mom's health and age.  Just wanting to know if any others around my mom's age with similar dx have done surgery first or chemo/perjeta first?  I want to get treatment going soon.  I feel that it is growing while we are waiting around trying to get opinions.  I am trying to get another opinion with ONC, but hard to do much with holiday schedules.  I am so scared and love this forum seeing so many positive survivors.  Thanks for any input!

Thank you for your reply and I do need to remember that the oncologist is the one with the expertise with cancer.  Mom is thinking that is the way we need to proceed now, also.  I may not have time to get another opinion as she is wanting surgery as soon as the dr can fit her in.  Such a scary time hoping that we are making the right choices for beating this.  Thanks again for your reply.

I was 72 when I was diagnosed last December. I had a double mastectomy first followed by chemo. I had a bad reaction

to both taxotere and taxol and am doing herceptin only now.

granny 72, I hope you are doing well now.  Mom is only having one breast removed. She's worried that having a double would make her recovery worse.  I hope she will not have a bad reaction to chemo.  I know it will be tough.  What happened?  Thanks for replying.
