naltrexone - I had several attempts at recovery before getting it right 11 years ago. I did inpatient & detox at traditional facilities that all treated me with the 12 Step approach. I went to meetings and did all I was supposed to do. It did not work. I wanted to be clean and I continued to relapse.
I was taken to Penn Medicine where I was prescribed Naltrexone. I took it once a day for several weeks and never drank again. It was as if it turned off whatever was going wrong in my brain. My desire to drink was gone completely. It doesn't work for everyone but LANCET reported a 68% success rate. Also, I know 12 step programs save many lives. I am not suggesting that they don't. This is my story. If it helps someone else then I am blessed even more.

thanks, for the replies.
I was away for a couple of days. I had to go to the city to see my BS. Since it was a late in the day appt, we stayed off island for the night and got some shopping done. My mammo came back with no cause for concern. whew!!! They read them right then for us that have to travel. I think just talking about taking a relaxant helped me relax without actually doing it. So no cause for concern there either.
I am taking Tamoxifen now. I had a lx 3 years ago and then 6 wks. of rads. I tried arimidex for about 8 months but couldn't handle it. I had a really hard time breathing while doing the rads. Now I just seem to have constant pain, I have been dx with fibromyalgia. This low dose naltrexone is just the opioid block. It is used in higher doses for withdrawal, but in this case it is used off label. It is in a real low dose, like 1.5 mg. It has to be compounded in a specialty pharmacy. She has ordered a script for me so I will see how it works. I also get prolotherapy shots in my back and neck. I am staying away from the pain meds.
I guess I never finished filling out my signature code at the bottom.
Anyhow, got thru that appt., next week it is the gyn.
The thing with the sponsee is ongoing. I told her I would be here when she is ready. I have not heard from her since last monday.

Well, I got myself of pain meds again after surgery # 6. It's like a cruel game to play with people in recovery.
Happy & HEALTHY New Year everyone.

Yes it is Warrior Woman and glad you were able to manage it. Hope your recovery is moving with as few ups and downs as possible.
Aurora, I wondered if you were in Mexico for the holidays. Thanks for checking in and it would be great if insurance paid for the PET scan. Hang in there beauty and seeing your post gave me a lift-thanks!
