so,after a full winter of being sick in one way or the other--being at doc every week, finally getting better, we discover at biopsy that I have papillary thyroid carcinoma.

From all I can tell it is very early, no one seems overly concerned- radiologist wrote me the morning saying " this is curable and treatable. If you have something, this is the best thing to have"...

I meet with him tomorrow to review the report, then off to endocrinology and surgery I guess....

I am feeling better now that I at least know what is happening- and am so grateful to my pcp for sending me for the lung ct-which I did not want to do--Otherwise they never would have picked up these nodules... no one ever felt them in a clinical exam....I am not happy about this and exhausted thinking about all the appointments, etc.  But the alternative is definitely worse.

any words of wisdom-glad to hear them

Hi, I know this is an old post and I suspect that by now you have had your thyroid cancer treated. They also discovered thyroid nodules by accident on me (during breast MRI). I had biospies of two of the nodules. One came back clear and one needs follow up. Instead of getting another biopsy, I chose to do the "wait and see" approach. My next US on is in in February to see if it is the same size. I was originally concerned when I found out about the nodules, but all my research and everything the doctors tell me is that if it is cancer, it is treatable and normally curable. I hope everything is going well for you after treatment.

I too have a thyroid nodule that was found on a ct scan. I had it biopsied and it was benign. I have it checked eve y six months. Like you said, they are very common.

    Hi

It is true that if it is thyroid cancer, particularly papillary or follicular, it is essentially curable. I had a nodule a little over 1cm-- biopsied for papillary--had my thyroid out in July-- had the lowest dose possible of radioactive iodine in October.... but everyone, my dr, oncologist, gyn, pcp, dermatologist, dentist--- told me that it was completely curable and they were right. My symptoms were excessive coughing, which is how they found it in the first place--- I think the nodule may have been leaning on my vocal cord---- they also picked up a nodule on my lung which the pulmonologist says is a benign infection-I have that checked every 6 months--- just a few more times.

I feel great- and the thyroid meds dose they gave me was perfect from the start--- so I have no complaints.... so many people have these and they are benign--but even if they are not, it is truly curable-----

    good luck.
