Waiting on Ultrasounds Results

So, I don't know where to start. To begin with, I'm the type of person who worries about everything. I'm 19 years old and I've had some lumps in my breasts honestly for a while, like, years. I never thought anything of it (due, in part, to the horrible sex education in America), and only recently decided to go to a doctor about it to get some peace of mind.

It sort of freaked me out because she said that my birth control dosage is too high (I'm on tri-nessa. Also, note that this isn't my primary physician since I'm out of town for college break). Then, she ordered the ultrasound. The facts about these lumps are that there's one in each breast, the left one being larger. They're both very mobile, which I'm assuming is a good sign. The doctor said she believes I just have fibrocystic breasts, especially considering my age. However, she's just being cautious I suppose. Also, I've had an onset of continuous tenderness in my breasts since starting the birth control two months ago, as well as some slight swelling. I'm already pretty small to begin with, so anything really is noticeable to me. How worried should I be? I'm probably just freaking out because I've been having a lot of health scares recently, but I'm quite an impatient person when it comes to waiting on medical results.

Update: I first started taking birth control when I was 17, March of 2013. I stopped at the beginning of this year due to insurance issues, and just started up again in August/September, so I actually meant to say something like 3-4 months ago that I started taking it

Just to chime in KimberlyAnnette, you are one very lucky dame. Hopefully, it's just fibrocystic breasts, BUT at least she took you seriously. A lot of doctors push ppl like you away, saying you are too young for this. Yep. Anyway, i don't know why you should even have to wait for the results, call the physician that ordered it, and leave a msg that they should PLS call you with the results. They know immediately the results, they just have to pass it along. And, a lot of times, when there is nothing serious, docs tend not to call the patient. So you make the call. Best of luck

Thank you! I have another appointment set up for Friday, hopefully they have everything then so I can stop freaking out and focus on school in a few weeks. I tried asking the woman who was during the ultrasound if she saw anything, but she said no. I have a feeling, however, they're just supposed to say that to you? She was taking a few pictures, of course, which concerned me, so it seems to me like she either must have seen something or there're just routine spots to take the photos at. Either way, thank you!

    Hi,

I am several years older than you (23) and have also recently been diagnosed with fibrocystic breasts.  I have read that fibrocystic breasts changes can cause lumps, but I don't have any lumps that I can feel.  My symptoms began as burning, tenderness, aching, itching and some slight swelling.    I was very alarmed when I first started having the symptoms.  They were more pronounced in my left breast, but since it started about 5 months ago, my right breast has been having more of these symptoms also.  I worry a lot about my health and immediately began starting to worry about the possibility of breast cancer.  I have never taken birth control, but have heard that it can affect breast issues/health, so it could possibly be playing a part in your situation.

I ended up going to two breast surgeons; the second one I went to did an ultrasound.  I didn't have to wait for the results; she did it right in her office, and I looked at the screen as she was doing it.  My breasts both showed up solid white on the screen; she said this is because me breast tissue is very dense.

I hope your results are good!  I just wanted to stop in because I am young too and have been diagnosed with the same condition that you have.

Tthe internet is a dangerous place for medical self-diagnosis as it will usually direct people to the worst and most severe web pages, as there is a lot of outdated and poorly worded info on the Internet and general searches do not discriminate good from dubious information. Try to only read from official and quality websites.

Please read Breast Ultrasound May Help Younger Women Avoid Biopsies, from our main site. You may have denser breast tissue due to your age (not a problem or bad thing) but Ultrasounds can get a view that mammograms can't in those breasts.

We wish you all the best for the future. You are lucky to have a doctor who has not dismissed your concerns but will check to aleviate your concerns and hopefully get your pill and hormones balanced better.
