Oncotype test results

I am looking to hear from any of you that had a lower oncotype test score with ILC. Did you go for a second (or third) opinion to be sure that treatment your doctor suggested was what you wanted to do? My doctor just called me and left a message saying it was good that I had a 6 & that means no chemo & to have a happy holiday. I am calling her back shortly to make an appointment but I wasn't expecting that low of a score. She said tomoxifen was next. I am afraid to not push for chemo??? I am 100% Er & Pr. BMX, clear margins, 0/4 clear nodes, other side was perfect with no bad findings, 3 cm with small .1 & .4 cm (which she told me they only focus on the 3 cm). I'm not sure what to do from here????

While I did not have a low score (mine was 20), my doctor helped to make the decision not to have chemo. It seems with ILC, research has not yet shown that chemo is significantly more effective as hormonal treatment, unless you have a score in the high range. However, with that said, I am no expert and everyone has different variables in their equation. I wish you well and hope you reach a decision that will allow you to sleep at night. At the end of the day, we have no crystal balls, only our best judgment in the moment. Peace to you.

mama, I would see about getting genetic testing done also. second opinion might be in order if you aren't quite sure. I believe the onco test was designed for post-menopausal women , but could be wrong. Not sure where you are with that. My onco score was 21; I did chemo and don't regret it, but I had IDC. Not sure how effective it is on ILC. What grade is your tumor? The higher the grade, they say the more effective chemo can be. Too many factors and decisions! good luck~maybe you can find a thread on ILC that may be helpful.

    Hi

I had no nodes, no LVI, ER/PR + and an oncotype of somewhere in the mid-20's (cannot remember) I just remember that it was in the gray area-- so we had to decide--- they often don't tell you what to do. I had decided that if it was over 18 I would have chemo (at that time, the low range was 0-18 or something like that) So, I did do it-- 4 rounds-- didn't like it….. but it got done and I sleep soundly.

All that said, if my score was a 6, I think I would have gladly skipped it…. the whole purpose (doesn't matter your menopausal state) is to see if chemo is helpful---your onc should be able to give you the oncotype report and review it with you and you will see the benefits of chemo based on scores….. there is some argument that ILC responds better to hormonals, and my onc (at Dana Farber) is a big believer of the hormonal treatment-but my score pushed me a little over the edge (after I decided then asked her what she thought, she said "it would be hard for me NOT to give you chemo).

Second opinions are always helpful and worth getting, especially for such a big decision--- I have rarely seen anyone on these boards with that score who did chemo----

    good luck and congratulations!!!
