Severe pain after ductal excision normal?

I'd heard that single duct excision is a really simple procedure with very little recovery time (at least that's how it was for my mom). But it's been 2 weeks now and my nipple is still extremely black & bruised and the pain is so bad it keeps me awake all night (even with OTC pain meds). My nipple is also numb and bent all out of shape..it looks pretty bad. The surgeon looked at it a few days ago and said it was healing fine, no infection or anything. Has anyone else experienced this? I have small breasts that're very sensitive normally..maybe that's why the pain is so severe?
