lumpectony 4 days ago; feeling lost and alone

PMR53;
I did get some Ativan but still find myself awake at 2 AM or waking up after only being asleep for 3 hours. I'm tired but sleep brings nightmares and since surgery, it's hard to find a comfortable position. A long, 6-8 hour sleep would be great.
Love your "hand granade" analogy, it's pretty accurate.
I hope your node pathology is clear.
Sending you positive thoughts and strength.

Hi Quiggy
Radiation did leave some damage on my breast. I didn't want to write it before for fear adding to your concerns. I have some seromas/hematomas (not sure which they are lol) along the lumpectomy incision area and a "bar" of hard tissue on the bottom part of my breast. But I wear a 36d so I was told I may encounter issues like this. Unfortunately my breast didn't really shrink after all my treatments were done - but the whole breast stands up better than its sister. When lying on my back it doesn't move whereas the right one tends to flop lol. Perhaps too much information but I find it funny
I started a new job a week after my last radiation treatment. I was swollen, red and uncomfortable but NOBODYat work even knew I had just gone through radiation, let alone bc. Now, almost a year later, I am slowly sharing my story.
You will do fine at work - and hopefully you will be so busy that you'll be more concerned with your job than your breast
. I remember forgetting that I had just gone through treatment when I was at work - its almost a blessing
Hope this helped you a bit

Thanks MrsDarcy, your post was helpful and funny. I'm sure you're right. I really need to try a little humor; it's probably going to be easier to do that as time goes by.

Quiggy,
I wondered how you are doing after your lumpectomy? Are you sleeping any better?. I saw a Naturopathic Dr. Yesterday who prescribed Melatonin 20 mg for sleep. This was in addition to Ativan. I hope this regimen will help. Let us know how you are doing. Did you get your surgery results back? Hugs to you!

Hi PRM53;
Thanks for checking in. My nodes were clear,yay. Heading to doc now for onc type.
Check in after.
-
Great news Quiggy! So happy for you!
-
When you go back to work, just use scarves or wear an extra layer. It won't show as much as you think it will.
-
Received great news, the onc type revealed low risk for recurrence so no chemo!! I'm thrilled and if I had any energy, would totally want to celebrate, cartwheels in my mind..
Radiation for Christmas, 😁
Aromasin after radiation.
Only damper to the great news is my Chron's disease is flaring up and making recovery a little more challenging.
I'm looking forward to January when my new grandson arrives and then March because treatment will be behind me and I can explore reconstruction.
I'm still astounded at how quickly our lives are forever changed the moment we are diagnosed. The support from all of my BC sisters has been a lifeline for me! I'm sorry we've all had to meet this way but I'm grateful we found each other.
-
Thanks Wren44, scarf is a great idea.
-
Oh quiggy, what great news for you! I am so thrilled, that will give you a great Christmas!
-
I am so very happy for you Quiggy👏!! What is the Onc Test you speak of? I was not offered that..will you have Herceptin?

Great news, quiggy!
-
Hooray, Quiggy! So happy for you!!
-
PMR53, The Oncotype DX test is a genomic test that analyzes the activity of a group of genes that can affect how a cancer is likely to behave and respond together treatment and if you reduce chances for recurrence by radiation or chemo or both. Just more data resource that helps make decisions.
I swear, cancer requires that you get an expedited medical degree! We should all petition for an honorary degree! LOL
Thanks everyone, I am thrilled. I know my journey is long from over but this is one less ugly process to deal with. My heart goes out to all who weren't as fortunate.
I'll be going on an aromatase inhibitors instead of tamoxifen.

Hi Sheila888;
This will be my third grandson but my daughter's first child so I'm hoping to be able to help her out.

Radiation consultant this afternoon and today I'm 3- weeks post op.
Caring for my aunt, her cancer consult meeting was this morning (Lung). She's got dementia and has inappropriate moments. This morning was one of those times. She loudly told the nurse/doctor that I had cancer too and they "cut my boobs off.". It was a little horrifying and comical at the same time.
I know that my journey is moving in the right direction. I'm very thankful for the low onc type report but today, while at the hospital cancer ward, I kept losing it and bursting into tears.. Just couldn't pull it together. Geezz!!! Some days are just too much I guess.
Tomorrow's another day.

Oh quiggy, I am so sorry that happened to you, but I had a similar experience with my Mother who had BC and soon after she was Dx with Dementia. I was working for a major international airline and was called at work to go to the Hospital, my Mother had an infection and had been taken in an Ambulance to the ER. As always, it took many hours and my Mother was having a rough time, being restless with a fever. She was a very sophisticated, lovely lady and we got on really well. Suddenly she turned on me and shouted that she knew, I was trying to kill her. The whole place went quiet as she launched a tirade at me. I had to go out to feed the parking meter, shortly after, still wearing my full uniform with all the badges identifying where I worked and every head turned in that ER, it was the longest walk, ever! The fever disappeared and my Mother returned to her lovely sweet self. I can laugh at it now.
Hugs to you, it is early days and getting emotional is normal, don't give yourself a hard time. It is a stressful time of year without all that you are dealing with. Take it easy, if you can!

Thanks Ariom. Loved the story of your mom, caring for someone with dementia is a challenge and stressful. They do and say strange things, sometimes it's hurtful. Add the holidays andmy BC, guess weepy moments are bound to come.
This forum and all the input from my BC sisters has really been helpful.
I'm also blessed with a loving and supportive hubby.
I wish you all a peaceful and pain free holiday. I wish great things for us in 2015!
Merry Christmas and happy New Year! 🎄 (((💓)))
