Neupogen Shots
Hi All,
To give a brief history of my wife's diagnosis, My wife's cancer recurred on her skin "again" last month an she got 3 doses of Abraxane. After the 2nd dose her blood counts were low and she had to take neupogen shots for 3 days. They gave her the third dose of abraxane and a week off. Now her blood counts are low again and she needs to get 3 shots of Neupogen. It is going to be a standard protocol for her till she finishes her abraxane. My question is, is it ok to get so many neupogen shots. She had 24 neupogen shots in 2012 while on taxol with her primary diagnosis and then 4 neulasta shots while she was on FEC. This year she had 5 neulasta shots while on Taxotere and again now she is taking Neupogen shots. Is it ok to stress the bone marrow so much with these shots. Has any one heard of any long term side effects with this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi wifesupport, first let me say how wonderful it is.... and you are....for you posting for information for her. I had Neulasta, but not Neupogen so I am sorry to be no help. I am "bumping" your post to the top of the active topics again to pick up more posts during the evening, hopfully someone will chime in with answers soon.

Thanks Meadow,
I know we don't have a choice but to take the shots but wondering if it is safe in the long run.
Thanks

I've only just started chemo, but my oncologist is prescribing Neuopogen prophylactically, even before any low white blood counts.
Two days after each chemo they want me to start shooting myself up with Neupogen-- for five days in a row, just before night so I sleep through a lot of the aches and pains.
I'm going to have 6 cycles of chemo (TCHP). I certainly hope it's not going to be bad for me. I think they really don't want people to get into danger with low white blood counts, and I assume that neupogen isn't going to be worse for you than the low blood count. (But who knows?) Anyway, this seems to be fairly common at the place I'm at (KP).
I have to say that I am new, so I really don't know all that much! But I'm going to be taking Neupogen, so I hope this post helps a bit.
