Pita119: I am in central NJ near New Brunswick - a small town called South River. Also lived in Cape May county many moons ago during my first few years of teaching. Lived in Stone Habor and Avalon. Where are you? Also - our "cancer stats" are similar.
To all: What is the guarantee this crap won't resurface in the future and how do you deal with worrying about it?

Ratzle-fratzle. Machine was down today. My appointment was cancelled. We will be driving to the clinic tomorrow (Saturday) for a make up treatment if I don't hear tonight that the machine is still down. This was definitely not a happy making situation because I spent $$ for a hotel near the clinic on Thursday night.  It is a round trip commute of over 3 hours and my make up appointment will require us to leave home at 6:45 am because along with the commute, there is a one hour time difference.  I could add the treatment onto the end, but that would put me into Christmas week and that is a "no" - plans are made for that week.

The tech team is willing to work the week-end to take care of us, forgoing part of the big Clinic Christmas Party Ski Resort week-end, so I can't be too unpleasant about it.

justjean, my heart goes out to you, and I wish I could help. I cannot comprehend being in your shoes and having to deal with these stupid people. You are a strong, incredible woman and deserve so much better. At least someone came through for you with meds. BTW, I HATE pink cloud fluffy f$$ing ribbon freaks too. You handled her perfectly and it was a learning moment for her pea brain. Gawd help anyone that does it to me, cuz I am channeling you.

I start rads in late December and it terrifies me too.

    CoyoteNV,

Thank you for keeping our list updated. The machine was down for a short time yesterday @ my facility too but they were able to get it back up and running without having to cancel appts. Everyone was about 1 1/2 hr. later than they would have been had we all been taken on time.

Beachlady28...I am in Haddonfield, south jersey, just a few miles away from Cherry Hill. Lived here for 35 years and am thinking that I might like to move somewhere where the property taxes don't kill me. As far as a guarantee that our BC won't resurface in the future..sorry to say there is no guarantee. All we can do is to stay on top of our health with the testing, drs. appts. etc. How do I not worry about it? I've accepted that it's out of my control & I can't change things. Treatment options (though not at all fun) are many and are being improved all the time. Things that I was offered weren't available to my mother when she was battling this 20 plus years ago and weren't even thought of when my grandmother battled it in the 60's. So, I try to stay positive...do the things that make me happy and pray alot.

hope50 I've hurt terribly in my back on the side I get rad. I also get rad thru the table and into the armpit. I've been seeing my chiropractor for PT 3x to 4x a week for the last three weeks and he does 20 minutes with a tens machine loosening the knots, 30 minutes DEEP tissue massage trying to break up,incredible knots in those muscles caused by radiation. I'm coming off the table every time and sometime get teary eyed- I've spoken w several Breast cancer gals w same issues. After I see him the pain is less. Every am I'm so stiff all over especially back and neck so I do some stretching and then again before bed. My insurance is covering it- maybe you can find someone you trust- it's allowed me to live every day as opposed to barely function

Why does my screen freeze only here?? I have to walk dogs so that helps post chemo rigidity. I've had serious nausea every am since rad 4 but take Compazine. Sleep is a joke but if I get the ac to 60, walk at least 2 miles that day and go 100 miles an hour I get a few hours with some medicinal assistance and two nights ago I said screw it and poured a vodka on Ice w fresh cranberries. My dr gave me these giant sticky pads I cut to size and wear for 24 hours to alleviate burning and itching and they're a damn miracle!! Ask for them!! 4 reg rads left then 7 boosts- ie 11 left. Keep rocking ladies!!! YALL are all amazing!! Anyone ready for the holidays? If so post some pics please

I think I've tried them all and the Merona camis at target are the best- don't rub, no exposed seam and absorb sharpie

Back home from the long run to the radiation clinic for the make-up treatment. (#18)  Generally, I haven't had much in the line of visible skin issues.  I itch around my collarbone and have discomfort under the skin under my arm.  I feel rather punk, but nothing compared to the entire time of chemo - just sort of a run down feeling.

On the way back we stopped for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, which was a treat.  We are going to put some lights in the tree in the front of the house, and that will be the extent of the outside decorations this year.  OBE (overcome by events) all over the place this year.  Inside is pretty much done. The Christmas Village is pretty cute, so I'll take a couple photos and post them.

Please add me to the list of those who are "enjoying" rads for the holidays. I had my CT sim this past Monday and started rads Thursday. 2 down -- 25 to go. I am having external rads to my entire left breast after a lumpectomy on 11/12. I don't know exactly the type of rads. I'll ask on Monday. I just know the radiation hits me four times, and then I can leave! Last night was a tough night. I was burning and stinging all over my breast, above it and below it, and on the left sides do my neck. It didn't make sense that it was the rads, because I 'd only had 2 treatments and my skin hadn't gotten pink. Long story short, it was the Medline Skin Repair Cream AND the tapes they used to attach a a roll of bubblewrap over a skin fold on my armpit. I have very sensitive skin, so I'm looking for a new, very mild, cream. I would appreciate any suggestions. If anyone can use 2 brand new tubes of Medline cream, PM me and I'll send them to you. I'm grateful to be a part of this group

I've been reading all of the different treatment experiences, so I thought I would share mine, just to add to the mix.

I am treated at BAMC, a military hospital in San Antonio. It's a 45-minute drive from home, but could be worse. (My heart goes out to you, CoyoteNV!) They gave me 3 tattoos, which they then marked with giant X's and covered with clear plastic tape. Since the sim, they've added at least 8 more X's or brackets. I have anchor scars from prior breast reduction, a new lumpectomy scar and all the markings. Frankenbooby meets robot! For treatment, I take off everything from the waist up and cover up w/pillow-case size towel and walk over to the table. I have a plastic form molded to my shoulders and head. I settle into that, grab the bars, and have to hold my breath for each dose of radiation (4X). I see RO 1X week. Techs are great, so far. No bubblegum pink anywhere! I hate that color

meanmomto3 welcome to the group! There is a cream you can get in nutrition stores or online ( amazon has it) by Bolron homeopathic called callendula cream ( not the lotion or gel) it's a natural first aide cream and it has worked really good for me. When I developed a burn under my breast I increased the amt of times I put it on, I also was told to put aquafor on over the cream. My burn healed 75% in less than 72 hrs. I also went without a bra as much as I could.aloe Vera gel that you keep in the freezer will help too just make sure it's 100% aloe. I have had 22 so far also on the left side and also hold my breath 4 Times. Good luck! Have a good weekend.

CoyoteNV - thank you for updating the list. I started rad on 12/3. 3 done so far, 30 more to go... Sorry to hear you had to go in for make up on weekend. Hope your skin problem won't become bad. What are you using for skin care? I'm applying Aquafor twice a week as My RO recommended.

    HockeyCat - Got 'ja.

My skin issues are minimal at this point. (18 treatments - 10 to go) I have Aquafor from the RO but dislike the greasiness.  I have aloe cream with calendula in it. I also have a Bioron Calendula gel (maybe similar to what Beachbaby mentioned) that I like a lot. It seems to address the itchy collarbone issue quite well.

Meanmomto3:  Although my trip to the clinic is long, it travels through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.  We start in Nevada by Lake Mead and travel through three states every day.  We cross the desert that is surrounded by mountains, bluffs, buttes and mesas and wind through a mountain gorge with towering multi colored cliffs and unique rock formations. The red cliffs are so beautiful with the vibrant blue sky filled with white puffy clouds above and surrounded by the sage brush that's the color of green that only sage brush can be. Our road passes through a Joshua tree forest and patches of desert with many kinds and shapes of cactus.  We watch for the wildlife that live in the desert and mountains around here. We've frequently seen mountain sheep, eagles, hawks, coyotes, wild horses, rabbits, desert fox along this road.   Sometimes we listen to Native flute music, some times the silence, but lately it's been Christmas music.  It really could be worse.

Thanks so much for your suggestions for skin cream!

Beachbaby: I've ordered the calendula cream from Amazon. I'm also driving into San Antonio today to see if I can find it at Whole Foods. Thanks again!

CAS4: The reviews on the Cicalfate are incredible. I'm ordering it, too! I use an MD brand of sunscreen, recommended by my dermatologist, called Elfa. It is the ONLY sunscreen I've ever found that I can tolerate. Like the Cicalfate, it's pricey, but I order online from Dermstore.com. If you google dermstore and coupons, you can find discounts. I think there's always a 20% discount if you sign up for their email list. Also, shipping is free over $50. Plus, it's guaranteed to be genuine, no counterfeits or expired.

CoyoteNV: Glad to hear your weekend went well. We moved here after living in Las Vegas for 6.5 years. I really miss the scenery. Red Rock was one of my favorites. Mt. Zion Natl Park wasn't too far, and it was breathtaking. I've been stockpiling podcasts and audiobooks for my drive in. I-10 in South Texas is, well, just about as ugly a drive as you can get. Seriously terrible. The audio keeps me entertained. lol

Thanks again for the warm welcome. It really lifts my spirits to read your stories.

Wanted to say hi to all the new people since I have been on last. I have nine down and am becoming red and miserable. Just can't wait for this to be over. Has anyone had pain at the bottom of their ribs? I truly can't remember if this started before or after I began radiation.😒

Coyote: Glad you get to see such beauty on your long drive.

MeanMom (I'll bet not): As you probably figured out, I go to St. George, Utah for my treatments.  We live between Vegas and there, and the drive to St. G. is actually easier because of the non-traffic.  We lived outside of Dallas for awhile and I didn't find too many scenic drives around there either.  I grew up with mountains, and the love of them is in my DNA.  Texas folks are among the nicest possible neighbors.

CAS4:  Christmas decorations photos - Hubby and I did this on Thanksgiving weekend.

Our whole house is generally pretty festive this time of year but we restricted our decorations to the living room and dining room.  We generally have a couple of 10 ft trees decorated but decided that this year one shorter one would be fine - and it is.  It was a matter of choice, decorate a big tree or set up Santa's Village.  We decided on the village this year.

MarieBernice6234 - Those are start dates.  I added you today. Sorry I missed you.

Thanks Eileen.  I hope we get to see more photos.  My dear cat is getting older and is not so healthy, but he is well loved and cared for.  He is sitting on Santa's chair - DH, who sometimes serves as Santa at local holiday events, sits in this chair when he visits with children.  I call this photo "Waiting for Santa".

    Hi all :)

I'm new to this blog. I am scheduled to finish chemotherapy on December 30th. This will be a New Year to remember for me!

My oncologist wants me to meet with the radiation oncologist at the beginning of January for the initial consult. I've been told that I will "most likely" need 30 radiation treatments.

How long have those of you who had chemo needed to wait before you could begin radiation?

    Thanks!

    Hello.

It took me ages to get to finally signing up for this site after browsing for ages!

I am due to go in tomorrow (Dec 8th) for set up for rads.. then I am due to start on Wednesday.10th.

It'll take me a while to get social.. but I'd like to join you ladies this winter as we go through this.

No chemo .. had oncotype dx testing that showed that would give no known benefit.

Not started hormone therapy yet either. I've spent a lot of time reading the articles and Im really on the fence about that.

Hi KGotThis: Congratulations on the upcoming final chemo.  I had the simulation appointment at two weeks post chemo, but my first radiation treatment was 3 weeks after my final chemo.  My chemo infusions were every 3 weeks so I figured why not?  The final chemo had a rather slow recovery period, so I was a bit punk when I started.  It seems to have worked out ok.  I'm convinced that if you can make it through chemotherapy, you can endure anything.  I feel better now than I have since my surgery last May and I'm 18 of 28 sessions into this project.

K - Congrats on finishing chemo this month.  Coyote is right, if you can make it through chemo, you can make it through anything!!!  I finished chemo 10/23, sim appointment 11/6 and started radiation on 11/17.  I had my sim appointment the same afternoon I had my port out, so I had to wait for the incision to heal before starting rads.

Carynbrit, Welcome to the group.  When you go in for your set up tomorrow make sure you take an old shirt, as they draw roadmaps on you with sharpies and the color comes off on your clothes.  I endure the sharpie markings everyday so I make sure I put on an old t-shirt under my bra before I get redressed.  I have only ruined one bra, so far.
