New, Introduction -- Sorry for the Length
Hi, I've been a member of the community for several weeks, but I'm just now introducing myself. Sorry for the delay, but it's been a crazy roller coaster ride the past six weeks. In April, while showering, I found a small lump near the surface of my left breast, just outside the areola at 7:00. Within a few days, after mx and ultrasound, I was told that I had a fibroadenoma, 99.9% chance benign, no need for biopsy, and to return in 6 months for a recheck.
At the recheck in October, I saw a different doctor. An hour after he did the ultrasound, he performed a core needle biopsy. Six days later, I was given a preliminary dx of intraductal papillary carcinoma, positive for comedo necrosis. Thankfully, there had only been 2mm of growth in six months. That night, while trying to make sense of my new reality, I found this community. I am so grateful for the honesty, courage and selflessness of everyone who shares, encourages and supports those on this journey.
I had a lumpectomy on 9/12. Path reports confirmed 1cm intraductal papillary carcinoma, added extensions into the mix, said no invasive cells and clear margins. DX Intraductal Papillary Carcinoma, DCIS Intermediate Grade. ER+/- testing isn't back yet.
I completed my 2nd of 27 rads yesterday. All has gone well, except that I had a very unpleasant reaction to the cream I was told to apply 3X daily, plus the area where they put tape (to adhere bubble wrap to my armpit, and for the breathing gizmo) are fiery/tingly. I think we can make adjustments and work around that. Does anyone need 2 tubes of Medline Skin Repair Cream? lol
I'm working hard to keep my thoughts positive and my spirits up. It could be so much worse. I've got a 14-yo daughter at home and I've got to be strong for her.
I should hear whether or not I'll need hormone therapy next week. I've already done a lot of research, and I don't know what my choice will be, if offered. I have low-vision issues, and the thought of additional eye issues really scares me.
Thanks to anyone who has made it through this lengthy post. I look forward to getting to know you all better.
