OK slowly catching back up again. I'm going to limit comments to this page otherwise I will be writing the not so great American novel again which I don't think you all want.
I spent the 4 days after Thanksgiving cleaning out -yes it was that bad - so the heating man could do a system check. He was here maybe 10 minutes, stuck the gauges on it, says it needs washing out but not too bad but too cold to do it and left. He's great - no charge. Church member. AC needs the same thing in the spring too.
So that was Tuesday. Wednesday I really don't remember much. We've had a local murder trial well it's east of Dallas that has been on-line. So with that on and recovering from the 4 day marathon I didn't do much.
But I have a bit in inner psychic (maybe psycho too). I've been uneasy for a while and thought when the laser eye stuff was sched. it was that. NOOO. Showering Wed night and water backed up all in shower, over floor, out onto carpet, in DH's BR but not as bad. Had to have the main drain line to the septic replaced yesterday. Beaucoup dollars and bad juju day. But PTL the sun is out today. I have the washer finishing the last of reg. laundry and about to get into bleaching a monster load. Thank goodness I have tons of towels left from goat birthings because I used nearly all of them on the floors. What I don't get done get hung on the fence to dry out at least. Looks lovely since I'm on the corner.
Happiest of birthdays JWoo. Was the trip to England a self present?
Congrats Rosie on DD's BD.
Smaarty - Wishing you easy peaceful uneventful surgery and recovery.
Oh please send the skinny sleep here after you've found it 2TA. OK I have the non-existent daughter. We did get her and go to DB's house for Thanksgiving. That was all. I texted her when we got home, no response back. Not like she had lots to do - she took Fri. off and stayed home for 3 days playing computer games. I wonder if I bought her belly dancing lessons or something to get her out of her apt. JK - she'd hate me for that. I had not seen her since June. Talk occas. and she lives a whole one hour from here. I guess I'm going to have to make the effort to see her but all we do is shop and I just cannot afford much of that unless it's resale/Goodwill which is OK with me. Glad you have a new daughter back.
Yuck Blondie Shingles. I need to get my arse down and get the shot. Expensive though but I do think ins. reimburses it. I need to call BCBS to verify.
Have you all heard that the flu vaccine is not as effective this year. Not good news but at least it should lessen the seriousness of an infection. I got the flu in 2008 when they missed one of the strains in the vaccine. Posting hope not too many typos.
-
luvmygoats - what is it with this generation of adult children? My guess is that there is just so much more social media stuff going on people get a real disconnect with the here and now and tomorrow. Everyone wants everything right now and if they have to wait for even a few minutes out comes the smartphones or gaming devices. Anything to occupy our mind. What happened to waiting in line patiently and speaking to those around you instead ? Hmm technology - love it. And hate it.
Jwoo. It really is your birthday. Sweet !!! Whatcha gonna do ?
-
Patty, I know what you mean. I needed to ride the bus while I didn't have a car and every single person on the bus except me and small children had a smart phone. People used to at least smile and nod.
My friend had the shingles shot and still got shingles. They told her it would have been much worse if she hadn't had the shot.
Happy Birthday JWoo. Hope you bought yourself a present in England.
I had my flu shot, but it's disquieting to hear that it doesn't cover a bad strain. I know they have to guess in May what the strains will be in order to make the vaccine. I had flu my freshman year in college and was so sick. At my current age I would probably end up in a hospital. It was so bad that they cancelled all the PE classes and used the gym for sick students.
-
Hello ladies! Hope this finds you all well and kicking butt. My life is on fast forward since finishing chemo in May, then work, radiation and family has been incredibly overwhelming. I'm on Herceptin and tamoxifen, started getting crazy as my cycle is trying to come back so they put me on Effexor which is making me so friggin sick! grrrrrrrmy kids are doing great and we renovated and moved recently. I'm looking to get another mastectomy in Feb. and am thoroughly hating breast cancer

Would love to hear how you all are doing!
-
Way behind as usual, but this is what I've been doing..............................
My son and grandson looking at our new addition!
-
No Peppermint.... It was HER that over-slept...Ha! I was up... had BEEN up and watching the whole thing.... And I was emailing her, thinking that she was up & alert! So much for THAT!
AND she hates email... like I hate texting.... "oh well!" They say! She DID just send me an email though.... about seeing her neighbor in the hospital, and sent a picture.... And I behaved and didn't say what a brat she was for going off on ME because she overslept! Some things you just have to let it roll off.... Smarty knows too....
See, these grown Daughter's think THEY are the Mom's sometimes, and can do and say as they please, so we must sometimes act oblivious to their bad behavior.
Oh hey! We have a Myra.... and she has a man of some sort! They look cute enough.... what do y'all think? She sounds okay to me..... And she has kids.... so she MUST be alright....
Ah geez Myra... you mean you are 104 years old? Can't be... And you get to have "ANOTHER" MASTECTOMY? WTH??? Wasn't one enough?
I'm really sorry.... ah man, that has to hurt... I'm sorry....
I'm not serious very often.... at least it isn't any fun to be serious too much. I hope you stay with us.... How old are your little rug-runners?
And you renovated? You need to sit in a recliner and relax girl! Don't they know you need pampered?
Oh WOW Nettie! Congratulations! How far apart are the kids?
Post more pictures...
-
Can you gals please tell me.... After I lock the car with the RKF.... a little light flashes slowly. Does that mean the car is "armed?" Everything works really well... I was just wondering...
-
Nettie, congrats!
Myra, hi and welcome back.I relate to the 2nd mx, the do-over. Also, the two different BC's, we're in a different class...
Patty, right on about modern technology, love it and hate it, liking it now
Jeni, how did you spend your day (maybe you can't talk about it.....)
Waiting for Smaarty to check in, hoping she's pleased with her results.
Sassy, how was the launch? House still standing? Did it freak out the doggies?
Rose, how is DD celebrating? My DD is already planning her big 21 blow-out, she's been the youngest of her group and designated driver. She wants to visit local winery/wineries the weekend following weekend, wish I could go along.
Blondie, hope you're feeling better.
Hi1, great photos
Chevy, can't answer your key question. However, with my programming and software testing background, I'd try it out. Lock the car (how you think it works), then try the handle, what happens?
LMG, you rock!
Have a great weekend everyone!

-
CHEVY, I'd say yes, that means the security system is armed
-
Thanks for the Bday wishes, everyone!
Rose- happy bday to your DD!
I am working all day, and then tomorrow, I am having a HUGE sit down dinner for 30 of my closest friends. Making a veggie paella and other yummy Spanish treats.
Not anywhere near ready! aack! I can't believe i decided to do this

My BF got my a first edition, perfect condition, signed copy of Vincent and Mary Price's cookbook. I almost fainted.
AAAND we got a new fridge today! floor model, on sale, plus extra discount. We've needed one for a while. YAY!
Nettie- congrats on your beautiful new Gbaby!
Blondie- I hope you feel better soon. I know how horrible shingles can be!
Sorry I have not been too active here- things are busy at work, and i have been trying to prep for this party since I got back.
love you all, and hopefully will have some time sunday or monday to really get caught up here.
xoxoxo

Calling all parents and grandparents!!!!!
HELP
I've grumbled and complained about my oldest grand, the one I tripped over and broke my wrist. The kid tells lies.
From "forgetting" his homework, not having any, to "wasn't me", stuff disappearing. He lies.
Today, my car keys vanished. I knew they were in the house, checked car anyway. Asked him where they were. Looked me in the eye and said he didn't know. When his mom got home, she asked him, he went straight to them.
How can this be stopped? It's getting worse. They've tried taking things away, he hasn't had his bike or iPad for months.
With Christmas so close, and me so mad at him today, I threatened no presents. He doesn't believe in Santa, at 9 he shouldn't.
Ok, I've got a headache I'm going to bed
Thanks for reading
-
Spookiesmom, so what does he like? Time with friends, certain foods, something has to float his boat. My take is, if he goes without lying, he earns his "reward". If not, he doesn't earn it. He has to work for whatever he wants. Trick is to find his reward. Is lying the only problem? Is he mature enough to explain what the pay off is for his lying? Something is motivating him for inappropriate behavior (does he want to get you angry?). Have been taught that behaviors occurbecause something is gained or something is avoided.
-
He likes Xbox. Last week, I heard his dad say NOT to do something. Of course, he did. I caught him red handed. Dad took away Xbox for a week. Didn't phase him. I've heard dad lecture about the lies, not sinking in
-
Smaarty, thinking of you. Hoping the pain meds are working. Don't look, you might be disappointed.
Jeni, wishing you a fantabulous dinner party! But girl, all that work for your friends? Hoping they appreciate the huge effort. Pictures of food if possible
Sassy, forget to ask about the launch.....
-
Good point about wanting us to be angry. Although, when my son in law blows, he scares me. He's a BIG guy!
Maybe AIDAN thinks dad is all bluff. If I'd pulled this, I'd have been over my dads knees so fast, and just now able to sit. That isn't PC anymore, I guess
-
Spookie,
I worked with kids for years. Some really know how to manipulate.
Obviously take any advice with a grain of salt. But my opinion is, if his behavior is the same at school, time for professional help. Maybe parenting classes, maybe family therapy. Maybe the counselor at his school would have suggestions. There medical insurance might cover therapy for him, or all of them.
It sounds like he does things for attention.
Did he show remorse after you broke your arm? I realize it was an accident, but still.
-
Spookie - I threatened to take DD's bedroom door off and put her mattress on the floor over a couple of things I thought she might do (sneaking out). She valued her TV, Playstation and privacy too much to try anything like that then. Never had much trouble with lying. I was pretty good with "the look".
Don't need to believe in Santa for presents. Rewarding bad behavior. Maybe token something but nuttin' big. You can make it up later if things improve. Yup agree with 2TA - he's getting something from it. Is he getting plenty of rewards (time spent together with dad/mom not just monetary things) when he does behave right? Praises spoken to others in front of him for good behavior, called oddly enough "stroking". Can he verbalize why he does it? Or do you get "just because" or something equally lame.

These people are pretty good. Esp the 2nd link. One place it says that taking away TV for 2 weeks just teaches child how to live without TV not how to change behavior. The Lehmans have been around a long time. Well, actually I read that Mr. Lehman is dead but I seem to remember reading some of their stuff years ago.
-
Spookiesmom, the other thing to consider, has someone spoken with his teacher? is something happening at school that he feels he has no control. Maybe he's trying to offset that by controlling you - he knows he can make you angry so he gets pleasure from it. Try to stay neutral as much as possible, it will be hard, see if that makes a difference.
-
Some of it may be his age. DS & DIL are seeing a counselor to deal with older GS's behavior. Her theory is that sometimes what they really want is a connection. Getting mad is a connection, although not the best one. I do suggest talking with the teacher to see how he is at school. One of GS's behaviors was not getting ready for school and making them late every day. Counselor suggested a schedule posted on the door after discussing it with him. I heard him tell his brother not to talk to him because he only had 3 minutes left for breakfast.

WHOA!!!! It's time for bed, and I just realized that today is December 5th!!!
Three years ago today, I was in my room in the hospital, just having had a bilateral mastectomy (with TEs inserted) for Invasive Ductal Cancer.
If anyone had told me that there would come a time when I wasn't consumed with pain; frightened, angry, and frustrated with recon; or that even a day would go by that I wasn't obsessing about my boobs, I would not have believed them.
But here I am today, peaceful with my decisions, happy with my outcome, and no longer focused on two body parts that absolutely sucked all my energy from me for the longest time.
Ladies who are just starting out: It DOES get better!!!!! The road may be long, but have faith, and lean on us when you need to.
Hmmmm - I think I need another piece of pumpkin pie to celebrate the girls' birthday.

Love you all!!!!!
-
Blessings, congratulations!!!
-
Aw, thanks 2TA....xoxoxo
I just re-read my post and I was worried that it came off all RAH RAH "Hey, I had my boobs cut off and now I'm just peachy keen!"
I was fortunate that my dx was early stage. It might not have been. I am cancer-free today, but I might not be tomorrow or five or ten years from now. If that happens, my MO and I will have some decisions to make.
I would never want to say anything to make my Stage IV Sistahs uncomfortable, so please accept my apology if it came off that way.
It's just that lately, I've spoken to so many newbies who just can't imagine a life where breast cancer is no longer the focus.
Today was the first time I've completely forgotten an anniversary - of my dx, first rescheduled surgery, first fills, exchange, first everything. I think I am finally non-obsessed, and just wanted to share that.
Love you, my dear Owlettes!!!!
-
Blessings, you have started a new chapter, one where BC isn't always on your mind. Very liberating.

Dang, why isn't it animated?
-
Aw Blessings! FINALLY! You have gone through sooooooo much... CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!
Spookie.... Man, I don't know WHAT I would do... Sounds like this behavior has been going on for a long time, and it wasn't ever stopped when it started.
Now he gets away with this bad behavior... and his Parents and you are stuck with it... Guess you can't spank kids anymore... and THAT one would probably call 911....
I'd kind of be afraid for that little chit to come over to my house.... He might hide everything he saw! At least until his behavior straightens out... Is there something else going on? I mean like some sort of chemical imbalance in his brain? Or is he just a flat out little brat?
Yes, I would have someone talk to counselors, or teachers, or even law-enforcement... Put that kid in jail for a week or two!
So DH got some pills from the Doc...for depression... ESCITALOPRAM.... And it's only been 2 days, BUT we "talked" last night, and laughed, and I thought WTH??? Are they working already? But I know it is a build-up type of thing, and just a gradual thing, but it was really NICE to just sit there and talk about things!
Want me to send some of those pills Spookie?
-
-
Chevy. - yay for your dh. Obviously you two are for life but why not make it happy.
Blessings - I am stage Iv but def not the appointed speaker, lol. Wasn't in bad taste in anyway. It was awesome !!!!! I love to hear those stories and am positive our newbies will be also. Sweet. Congrats !
Spookie - a spanking on the butt is PC. A smack in the face is not. A beat down with a razor strap is not.
A lie in our house has always resulted in a spanking. Period. Can't say our ds's have been spanked often but the rule stands.
-
thanks all for the suggestions DD is a teacher at his school, that is some of the problem, IMO. She can stop by his room and get his work if he "forgets". Enables him. She is BFF with the guidance counselor there, I don't care for her on a good day. She's a kook, and her kid is off the walls.
I will get out with her over winter break and bring this up.
Blessings!!!way to go!!!!!
-
my current position for the next 2 weeks. Have to play t-Rex or could pop things open. This is going to be short, pain pill kickinginCongrats Nettie with the new baby. Always so sweet when they're new.
