I was diagnosed today with BC. I can't tell you much about it cause I was numb when the doctor called me. Probably should have figured it out by the tone of the doctors telling me they were very concerned with my ultrasound results but I just stayed hopeful. All I know is he believes it is stage 1 and about 1.3 cm from the biopsy but it is an aggressive form so he thinks I will need chemo. Still trying to absorb this whole thing. Scared to death of what is to come. Not sure how I'm supposed to go to sleep now so figured I would try this message board. Any words of encouragement are appreciated!!!

Take a deep breath! Release a good cry and just know that you are not alone on this journey. This forum has a great support system. Try to sleep well tonight, easier said than done. Get yourself into a positive mode. Write down positive quotes to keep your mind focused on positivity! Get a journal and start writing each day of your activities, emotions, doctor calls and doctor visits. I remember when my doctor told me that I was stage III(c), I couldn't hear her anymore after that. Thank goodness my sisters were there to listen. The news was overwhelming for me to comprehend and this was my immediate coping method. Surround yourself with positive family and friends. You will become an advocate for your health. You can choose to listen to doctors and also learn more about breast cancer. Get your gloves on, cause your going to knock cancer out! :) Gentle hug to you and you'll do fine. Remember, we are all here for ya!

I'm so sorry for your bad news. It will be a trying time for sure. I found there was less tension if I didn't try to be positive but went with and acknowledged each mood that came up. being told you have a life threatening illness is anything but positive so go ahead and be sad and scared and angry and get through it by talking to someone you know will hear you.

I found the women here really understand and are so helpful both with information and support so reach out.

it really does get easier so hang in there and be good to yourself.

Hi Pattysix - So sorry you had to hear those awful words. The early days are terrifying. Ask you doc for meds to help w sleep and anxiety if you need them. They were made for times like these. It is going to be a scary ride for a bit. I'm glad you found us. Please let us know how you're doing.

patty6 I understand exactly what you are going through it is a terrible shock and you are numb for days. My dr prescribed a mild anti depressant and a sleeping tablet just to get me through the first few months. It was a life saver for me. My only advice is to take the time to make your decisions and choices without getting rushed . I took 4 weeks before surgery so that I was making informed choices not panicking. Your first reaction is to panic but the tumour has been there a long time and taking a little time to think through things clearly won 't hurt. Hugs Judy

hi patty, welcome and sorry to hear you are a member of this club. I want you to know that I too have an aggressive form, and I am doing great after chemo! Aggressive may respond better to therapies in some cases---depends on your dx. My tumors have shrunk down to zippo and I get surgery on 12/17. I thought the world ended upon dx, but you will soon learn it does not. You have gotten excellent advice and help from these ladies, and add only that you come here for support.

Chemo is not fun, but you can do it. Also, know that you may not experience terrible SE (side effects), they vary greatly in each person. Yours may be very mild! Many women continue to work through it too. I hated it BUT seeing and feeling those tumors shrink was a powerful, happy feeling.

Once you have your pathology and imaging reports in hand, you can come back here and gain knowledge to fight this chit.

    Blessings,

Hi Patty. So sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

What you are going through is a journey and the beginning is the worst part. Once you have a treatment plan and you feel as if you are gaining some control back in your life you will start to feel better. I had good and bad days (all bad in the beginning, mostly bad starting treatment, then mostly good towards end of treatment). I have good days most of the time now and sometimes the odd bad few hours. We're allowed to cry, allowed to be angry and sad.

Treatment nowadays is fantastic. Your BC has been caught early and that is a very good thing, but I understand that this isn't a huge comfort to you at the moment. In time, it will be and you will be fine.

    Best wishes
