Hello. Not sure where to post this but I'm curious about others experiences. I had DCIS and I'm 38 and BRCA2+. I had my BMX earlier this year and most of my reconstruction is done. Three weeks ago I had my ovaries and tubes out along with my uterus to reduce my risk of ovarian cancer. I'm not be offered HRT since my DCIS was ER/PR+. I'm rather nervous about what to expect. The surgery was a breeze compared to the BMX and my gyn onc said the menopause symptoms will probably be the worst part of it all. I just wondered when do all the menopause symptoms kick in? I have had some hot flashes that are manageable. Is there anything I should be doing, or some book that is helpful?

at 3 weeks, post HX,, my estrogen level was zero and I was starting to hot flash.  Not everyone has hot flashes,, so you might be lucky and have none, or only mild ones. Mine are interrupting my sleep, so I just started on Prozac to see if it will help.  Other meds are Effexor and Paxil.

I would recommend exercise.  And there is a thread called the Hot Flash Forum.  Tons of info there.

I had a total abdominal hyst/ooph nine years prior to BC diagnosis.  I had severe hot flashes with 24 hours after surgery, and they have continued unabated, about once an hour, to now, lol!  I have gotten used to them, but I started a anti-inflammatory diet last January and have found that the intensity has declined since eliminating a number of foods that I had previously eaten.

Thanks ladies for your responses. I guess I just need to experiment and solve problems once they come up. I'll check out the hot flash forum. I have started exercising more regularly and being more mindful of what I eat. I feel like there is so much I could research in terms of bone and heart health let alone hot flashes and just being a moody mess :)
