Travel 2 weeks after exchange surgery with FG

    Greetings,

I'm new to this. I had my BMX (with TE) on 11/7 and drain came out on Day 25 (Praise the Lord!!). I'm filled to 350cc with Mentor CPX4 tissue expander with 350cc optimal capacity, and was told that it can be potentially filled to 400cc, which would be on 12/11. My PS likes to do the exchange surgery about 3 months from initial BMX, which puts me to 2/2/15. He also see the needs for fat grafting due to the apparent edge above TE on one side. My question is, is it safe to go on a 6-day cruise trip (4 hour flight each way) on 2/14 - 12 days post exchange surgery? Cruise should be relaxing and sort of worry free, but it may not have sufficient medical doctor to respond to any issues for post implant surgery, but I was hoping the issues would not be anything more than pain or, worse case, infection.

Hope you all had great exchange experience and speedy recovery.

    God Bless!

I actually flew from Tampa to Virginia for a funeral about 10 days after exchange surgery.  I was not particularly comfortable, but it was not bad.  The biggest issues I see for you are that you can't handle your own luggage - you will most likely have a lifting restriction, and the potential for a medical issue while you are on the ship for which the correct resources will be unavailable.

Thanks SpecialK for your helpful response. Does you PS recommended not traveling for a certain period of time? I was hoping I can go on the cruise with implants rather than TE, since TE are so uncomfortable...

Um, yeah... I didn't really say anything about going, lol!  In the interest of full disclosure, you should probably ask your PS - and this will also depend on how you do after surgery generally.  I do well, don't usually require pain meds for very long - less than a week, sometimes not at all, and as I said, I was very careful about lifting and did not drive.  My PS has always given me lifting restrictions, driving restrictions for some surgeries (you can see by my sig line that I have had a lot of surgery - and several different kinds), and compression and exercise restrictions for fat grafting, but other than that he is not one to give a lot of directives.
