I didn't get a car yet.... It has been sooooooooo cold and windy! So probably next week.... DH can drive his old car if we need to go anywhere, but I didn't want to walk around a car lot.... in this weather!

DD came over anyway, and we went out to the Mills and walked around....( INSIDE).... Picked up a Pizza, and came home and ate it! We LOVE those Little Caesar's pizza's...

Thank you for the beautiful birthday wishes and sweet notes. Thanks, Anne, for remembering.  And thanks, Jackie, for being here every day to offer encouragement and friendship.   It all means a lot to me.  I am so glad I checked in here tonight.
I was born on Thanksgiving so I get to celebrate with family most years.
I worked on my BD (25th) and came home and went to sleep and awoke after midnight.  I did hear from 3 of my 6 kids, and another just sent me a note that he will call tomorrow.  DH had to work tonight so I was alone.  I have a ladies group on Tuesdays and they made me a delicious weight watchers cake using angel food mix and pineapple.  It was awesome.
Last Saturday DH took me to dinner in the nicest restaurant in our little town.  So nice of him...he also got me a buttercream cake...I had a slice, saved a slice, then took it all in to work to share.  I put it in the conference room but nobody knew it was my cake or my birthday.

I have enjoyed reading back -- almost done.  Shuf and Catherine, I was glad to read that you had good reports.
Rita, what a shock to have an accident with air bags and all.  I am glad you are OK.  I hope you can resolve fixing or replacing the car quickly.  And thanks for your kind words about my photo.

Chevy, you have waited far too long!  You deserve a car that you can zip around in without stressing the hip.  Show us your conquest!

Anne, I liked your comment about the quiet Thanksgiving being a time to be able to reflect.

I wish everyone here safe travels and a time of peace and refreshment at this wonderful time of year.

Ah, a beautiful sparkling cornucopia  to lift the spirits and get us in a HUGE Thanksgiving mood.  Thanksgiving in the main, even much more than Christmas has always made me feel somewhat inspired.  In part I'm sure that has something to do with the fact that it REALLY was always about the celebration of unity in a new land with new beginnings and sharing a meal together to bless the spirit of uniting together.

I actually do enjoy Thanksgiving more since there is so much less of a commercial aspect to it.  It would be just the greatest thing ( I'm sure some manage this ) if X-mas could be more focused on the togetherness.  I'm not a Scrooge really -- and did love to watch my kids and their anticipation of the gifts under the tree -- but I do think at some point there can be a subtle change.  I have the most loving memory of going out one yr. to town with my friend and her parents.  Now we had quit long before having gifts at our house for economic reasons -- we could only afford a good traditional meal.  At any rate -- my finest gift that year -- was being downtown with my friend and wandering down  ( during evening hours ) streets with gently falling snow -- for once I was not cold -- and there was such a light, loving feeling inside of me.  All the stores were aglow and most had X-mas music playing -- and I just walked around enveloped in a cloud of love and able to enjoy one of the most comfortable and comforting evenings of my life.  Each gorgeous snowflake seemed to touch somewhere inside and part of the warm cozy feeling I had that night is still inside me.

I can just sit here and smell Thanksgiving morning -- at home, as a kid --- and much later too when my Aunt's and Mom cooked.  The kitchen turns into a magical place and everything in it becomes somehow tastier than anything you have ever had.  Even cold breakfast cereal ( kept scant for the big feast ahead ) seems to taste better than remembered just knowing what will follow in a few short hours.

It all tends to make feel me grateful for all I have and I do have so much.  Anyway -- just a couple of my holiday ramblings.

Elsewise, there is a heavy layer of frost outside continuing to try and work its way clear.  My windshield is glazed over a bit.  By the time I go out to feed my feral cats it should be ready to come off with a few swipes of the windshield wipers.  It is going to be a really good day here.  See you all later.

    Blessings

Want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Have been busy with the broom shop, stayed home today to get some pies made and a little cleaning.

DGD went and spent last night with her Dad, Grandmother & half brothers. Today her Dad is driving her

to Van Horn, TX to meet her brother and X step Dad, she will spend time with them until Sun. What a web we weave. Son and family will be here late tonight. We will be seven for dinner. Decided not to

mess with the bird this year, having ham instead.

    Hugs

A belated Happy Birthday to Joan!

Rita, I hope you enjoy the time with your son and grandkids.

So here we are in Decatur, IL., at dh's sister's house.  A short time after we arrived (about 1 pm) it began to snow.  The snow is accumulating.  The deck outside is a pretty scene.  I can enjoy snow if I don't have to travel in it!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Day tomorrow.

Oh my I am so behind in thinking about Shuf yesterday. I can only say I am hoping today all things have gone well. I finally started looking in Iowa for a mastectomy bra fitter that does the insurance. It turns out the University Hospital where my doctor is from has a shop called Decolletage that is like a fancy boutique but fits your or breast prothesis and bras and does all the insurance paperwork before you get there. Medicare apparently allows bras and prothesis. I made an appointment for early December. They understand that I don't really want to be bigger, but lopsided is making my current bras not fit and open up at unwanted times. And surgery to reduce the healthy girl seems extreme for me. It's quite spa like with coffee etc while you wait.

Travel to the lake included a bit of a huge problem. My windshield wiper on drivers side flew off and away while it was sleeting and trucks coming head-on. I was near a tiny town. An auto shop found an old torn one to make it possible to drive 20 miles to a regular store that keeps them in stock and put a new one on. How sweet of the young men who worked there to dig around and find something that would make do. No charge. It's junk anyway they said

Am at the lake with a friend preparing the holiday stuff. Thankful this year to be alive following diagnosis last December. Thankful for the friends I've made here and the beautiful thoughtful things people did and have done all year. Thankful for the young men who patched my windshield wiper so I could continue on my journey! Love to you all.

I was sitting here remembering that I made it out to be no biggie about the weather for you Carole.  Well -- I  am now ( as I watch our falling and somewhat accumulating snow ) wondering how many of my 'bravado' words I might be eating.  It did sound as though anything that came would not stay -- in fact, they made it sound like we might only see a few flakes interspersed with what was to be rain.  Sigh !!!!

I already know that weathermen, at least in this part of the country are not to be trusted, but I really did hope that they would be right.  I have to admit that I too am pretty much one to find the clean white snow falling something to be enjoyed.  As we live our two to three miles out of town though and have had 4-wheel drive vehicles the whole time almost -- I don't find it too daunting to drive anymore.  Some of you have heard this, but for others --- I did not learn to drive until I had lived in California for a few years ( I was almost 30 )  -- we had no snow there.  My first few years back home were "my terrified adventure" as each winter and snow weather approached.  I did not want to DRIVE in the stuff --- I made such a tense passenger when it was snowing that I could not imagine my actually being behind the wheel.  Now  I don't even recognize me and my careless abandon.  It makes little difference to me now ( though of course, I'd rather it be a sunny  summer day ) what is going on outside.  I found that, especially after I started working, that I was expected to SHOW up like everyone else  -- so within the first have-too season though I felt apprehensions --- I was able to do all right.

Carole -- my humble, embarrassed apologies but hopefully this will not turn into anything too "exciting".

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Creative gratitude is an attitude.  It is magnetic and will draw good to you.  It is good therapy, a road to happiness.  Thankfulness is a way of living more fully.  Be thankful for your health and you will have health in more abundance.  Be thankful for the love you receive and it will be increased.  Be thankful for your success and you'll open doors to further achievement.  Be thankful for your friends and more friends will come to you.  Be thankful for beauty and you'll experience it more deeply.  Creative gratitude is a force for harmony and goodwill.  It brings people together in love and understanding.  It is high on the scale of creative qualities to be practiced day in and day out in our moment-to-moment contacts.

    Sophia
Welcome to our little but cherished part of BC. Org.  We are the well-seasoned group -- generally having slightly different responses to our diagnosis and tx.  We are always sorry that someone finds it necessary to FIND us but glad to share your journey with you and very glad you found us.  Hope you will keep coming back.

We are delighted if we can make your steps through all of this a little stronger and your heart a little lighter.

    Blessings and care,

    Teka,

You find such neat graphics.  I love the Thanksgiving cat.  We are sitting here in Illinois with the temps at about 32 degrees and with our snow on the ground.  Don't think we have had many Thanksgivings with snow on the ground here.  Not sure I like it, but driving so far has proven not an issue.  Guess I feel more for those getting company and the resultant boots that need to be taken off and set somewhere to dry --- and perhaps having a dish to carry in etc.  Well, we will get through it --- and be thankful we are "having" issues.

    Cammie,

You know it is always a great delight when you stick your head in the door and chat -- even a moment with us.  We know you are hard at work ( since my furnace needed some attention when the bad weather hit ) in the cold season.  That Murphy ( you know that famous guy ) for some strange reason felt it proper to make sure everyone experience breakdowns of equipment in the very worst weather.  As our HVAC sits outside of our house ( not that it is truly warm inside when it goes haywire ) I really feel for the guys who repair it.

Can't imagine trying to work on something outside ( guess they soon develop a strategy ) with the need for warm gloves while maybe snow or sleet or something is pelting you.  Someone for me to be really grateful for this Thanksgiving as our furnace hums along sending out heat.

    Blondie,

Hope you too have a wonderful day --- love, your new avatar picture.  I'm imagining that you have snow where you are too in Philly but have to admit I haven't kept up with conditions much save for here in Illinois -- just feel like anything towards the East would have some too.

    Termite,

Always so good to see you too.  I'm pretty sure Chicago has the snow as well.  I hope your holiday is all you want it to be.

    Chevy,

Always so cheerful, and caring.  Me -- hmmm, I'd be paranoid without a car, but you just keep on going.  Well, you know you has to be careful here --- it is much harder to see rocks under the snow.

See you all much later -- when the stomach and full.  Leaving in a short while to go feed my feral cats.

Again -- Happy Thanksgiving to all.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Hmmm Carole, are you staying in today or are you going to make a little snowman?

Welcome Sophie, I had my chemo this summer, be sure and also check out the chemo discussion forums, there is usually a forum dedicated to each month so there should be December Chemo forum that you can follow, be sure and mark it as a Favorite so you can find it again. I found it really helped to keep in touch with people who were going through the same thing at the same time.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We're staying at Lew's sister's in Brainerd and will be leaving in a few minutes to pick up his mom from the nursing home and take her with us to Lew's other sister's house. I made 2 pumpkin pies to contribute. Lew's sister and her husband are both excellent cooks so I know lots of good food will be waiting for us. Grateful that the storm changed course and we had dry roads for our trip here yesterday.

Hi Sophie, glad you are here. Sometimes we are just plain silly here and other times we are quite serious. We're always supportive of one another, no matter what our past was or what our future holds. Old girls gotta stick together! Woo hoo!

Sounds like everyone is enjoying their holiday. I am happy sitting in the recliner with plenty of blankets (after all, it was 45 in San Antonio this morning), a cup of tea, and the parade on t.v. Mike is busy in the kitchen. One of the blessings in my life is a husband who not only likes to cook, but claimed the preparation of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners as his job. After 44 years, I wouldn't know how to roast a turkey or make stuffing/dressing. I help a little but mostly it just annoys him to have me jump into "his" kitchen so I stay busy setting the table, etc. I always make appetizers the day before and do the desserts. The dishes are my job, which is fine because I get to spend time with my beloved Wedgewood dinnerware. It's not used much now that we aren't in the military anymore. When he was in command positions, we were always having dinners. I never used to have to polish my silver because it was used several times a month. I have a lovely antique china cabinet where I can see my Czech crystal all the time but it looks it's best when it's on a beautiful holiday table. We had the foresight to buy service for 24 for the china and crystal so the three children can split it later. With only two of us here now, we are very casual now and I try to use as few dishes as possible.

Guess what? Our very own clown, Thelma (aka Mimi) is coming to see me next week. OK, she's really coming to San Antonio on vacation and has a busy schedule with her travel-mates, but I'll get to meet her in person. We're going to get together for lunch or afternoon coffee one day. Lucky me!

Just got home about 6:30 p.m. from all the holiday dinners.  We only ate one meal, but stopped in at Dh's brother's house.  His three brothers were there.  They had cooked a ham and scalloped potatoes, green beans and corn.  Ambrosia salad.  They do ok -- we would have had a piece of pumpkin pie, but too full.  It was a nice day really and the first time I did not have to make something.  How fantastic.

Going to go throw myself in my recliner and watch something and try not to fall asleep.  That what a great big meal is good for.

    Jackie
