Taking too long!
I am a British 58 yr old Ex-Pat living in the Middle East. I had a routine mammogram on 30 September. It is 3yrs since my previous one as the UK system is screening every 3 yrs. (I now know that is too long). 14 months ago I had an accident and badly broke my elbow which now has numerous plates, pins and screws in and because my referral Dr (GP) saw that the whole of my left side including breast was swollen she also ordered a sonogram. It showed linear distribution of microcalications in the left breast, because of the mental work in my elbow a MRI is not possible. So I was referred to a radiologist for a stereo VAB on the 8 November. The Pathology report didn't come through until 19 November and showed DCIS in situ, intermediate and high grade with comedo necrosis. Focal calcification present. No evidence of invasion in the sections examined. I have seen the BS and she suggest masctemony of the LB. Due to my strong family history she has tested for BRCA1/2 as if I have it we will go for a bilateral. This is now going to take 3 weeks (as has to be sent to Germany for testing). On more than one occasion my referral Dr has urged me to get a a second opinion especially as she knew my plans were to fly back to the UK for a couple of weeks. My BS has a very good reputation here and I felt very comfortable with her. I am flying today and my referral Dr phoned me yesterday and again suggested an second opinion, which I have arranged for on 2 Decemberin the UK . The BS here will operate after 22 December. Is this taking too long?

Hello Sultana, so sorry you're going through all this. In the grand scheme of things, the time line isn't too long. I was called back after a Routine Mammo in October, got path results in November and didn't have my surgery till nearly Christmas. Stuff takes time! If your Doctor is suggesting a second opinion, then I'd probably do that while in the UK, it can't hurt.
Try not to stress too much about the time, you're doing everything right and it will all come together, in the fullness of time.
I wish you all the very best......keep in touch here and let us know how you get on!

Sultana, My dx was end of February and June 13th was surgery date and that is here in the UK on private (would have been quicker on NHS). Fully understand the waiting, wondering and getting a second opinion. All my best to you and hopefully acting as if and keeping calm continues to come naturally. I think you are doing really well considering all you have been through and family history.

Thank you for your replies ladies. It is the high grade comedo necrosis that is really freaking me out. I am paying private to have the 2nd opinion in the UK as to get into the NHS system would take too long now. But we don't have private cover in the UK only here in the Middle East so thinking it would be better to have the treatment here. The Health care cover here is very similar to how it is in the US.
