Have been cooking all day today for the family dinner tomorrow at my mother's house.  Made lovely cloverleaf rolls using a recipe off the food network.  Now I'm off to the kitchen to put together something for dinner.  I hope the weather isn't as bad tomorrow morning as some of the weather models indicate.

Carole: I cancelled going to my niece's baby shower today because of the weather forecast. The shower was at least an hour's drive each way & I didn't want to get caught that far away from home w/the predicted wind, hail, tornadoes, street flooding, etc. that was supposed to come through no later than noon. As it turned out, we still have nothing but light rain at 8:20pm & I feel like a dope. They're still saying 90% storms tonight, but I think this front is moving much more slowly than originally forecast and maybe breaking up some. Hope you don't get the brunt of it tomorrow.

Photo and we are all so glad you are back Di.  O my goodness you have  gone through so much -- I hope this is the home stretch for you.  Also hope you gets lots of rest and heal.  Wow !!!!

Raining here lightly as I left work -- drat.  We did know it was coming though so we will do what we always do -- hold on till it's better.  More rain for us tomorrow too -- but they are saying -- it will start late.  We don't have a happy medium much here.  I think it either does way less of what they say or way more.  We will just roll with the punches even if they are wet and sloppy.

    See you all later.

I planned to drive to the Missour lake place to clean house before the family came for Thanksgiving. But I was saved by a predicted ice storm and had to stay in Iowa. Guess I'll just vacuum/dust a little on Wednesday and call it good. That picture made me really laugh. Thanks. Still feeling the smile on my cheeks (on my face.)

Morning gals! I just wanted to comment on Bill Cosby... I think that if it had been just ONE accuser, no matter how long ago, it might have all been forgotten, or again, swept under the rug... But when this many women come out, and say this about that man, it is not just all in their heads, or a way to get publicity.

I don't like Janice Dickinson either... but for some reason I believe her.... and the other women.

If you have ever been abused when you were a little girl... by ANYbody, you will remember it for the rest of your life. When you are only 7 or 8, and some guy does these THINGS to you, you are too afraid to say anything to anybody, especially your Parents... or anyone in your family. Because you think they will not believe you! You are only a little girl, being forced to do things you had no idea even existed.

You are soo scared of what he might do to you, or your Mom... Maybe when you get older, you should know you can't trust everyone, but when you are little.. you are alone. If that man is a family friend, or a neighbor, you are just stuck in that place.... in that black hole, trying to go on with life, and not ever be hurt again.... THEN you grow up, and somehow, if you have done a good enough job of hiding it from everyone, even yourself, those memories will all of a sudden COME OUT! EVERYthing is remembered... ! And you just sob, and cry for that little girl that had no-one.

And all you hope for is that man is dead.... gone! And if he isn't, you would gladly be in charge of taking matters in your own hands. It's just that even when you are grown, and this happened to you as a child, you still feel like it was your fault...and you are left with shame.

These women maybe were afraid, and ashamed and did not want to report it.... But once they get the courage to SAY something about this man they trusted, then he SHOULD be held accountable for what he did! Over and OVER! They will never forget it... Memories will stay with you, and hurt you everytime you think about them.

So I am glad they spoke out... False accusations are one thing... but that kind of behavior has no place on this earth... For men to abuse ANY girl or boy or woman, just for their own pleasure should be shot... to put it mildly..... IMOHO

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.  It turns what we
have into enough, and more.  It turns denial into
acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home,
a stranger into a friend.  Gratitude makes
sense of our past, brings peace for today,
and creates a vision for tomorrow.

We are having our gloomy Sunday.  It started raining a little while ago.  It is not pouring and might not even do that, but sounds like it will be with us ( save for a few short minutes at some point way later ) all day and into the night hours.  Then tomorrow -- lots cooler ( in the 50's now ) and maybe even some snow showers.  Whatever !!!   I just know we will lose the temporary warmth ( nearly balmy after our freezing last two weeks )  of the last three or so days, and go back into sturdy coat weather.  Ick.

All else is ok.  I got out early to get the feral cats fed ( oh thank goodness ) because I knew that if I waited the chance of them getting a meal today would likely be impossible.  They all seem to "sense" this weather.  Even Billy, our big black Lab --- who avoids the dog pen in the daytime -- wanted to go back inside and camp out in the big doghouse.  At the store not only the regulars came out, but as well some of the last batch of kittens -- two very small black and one black and white ventured out to get a share of the food.  One of my employers sneaks me money to help feed these cats.  I'm very fortunate that he does this ( under the table ) but I would see that the cats had something no matter what.  He has no idea how much of a burden ( even if a loving one ) he lifts from me.  Still -- not something I expect -- just so very, very appreciated by me.  Few have ever offered me help with this project that was not supposed to  go as it did, and here I am almost 10 yrs. from what was to be a brief chore.  It's ok though.  Some doors once opened cannot easily be shut and this one is for sure one of them.

Too bad our rain is not harder -- I could avoid the car wash.  Actually, it is warm enough out that if I hurried I could likely wash my car before I got too cold -- but my hear it not in it so I'll hope that old rain does turn harder later -- long enough to steal some of my dirt.

Hope you all have a good Sunday today and hi to everyone.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Bill cosby.. dont like janice Dickenson either, but i believe her also. I think he did it all, arrogance is something he is full of. I am so sorry 4 those women.  Should he be punished,  statue of limitations is up on some.

Chevy, I agree with you on Cosby.  Too many women have come forward for it not to be true.  It's one thing to be a womanizer and have sex with a lot of women.  It's something else to drug and rape women.  I think women are more likely to come forward today than they were several decades ago.  As someone suggested in an earlier post, some of his victims may have been paid off.

Our chance of really bad weather today did not materialize.  We had some gentle rain this morning and then by early afternoon the sun was out.  I wore shorts today.  The high was in the 70's.  Tomorrow a cold front is due to arrive and bring more cold weather.

Jackie, that's very kind of you to be so faithful to feeding the feral cats.

A friend posted this on Facebook today.

    image

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags wer...en't good for the environment. The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days." The young clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations."  She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were truly recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day. Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our schoolbooks. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribbling's. Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags. But too bad we didn't do the green thing back then.

We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was
right. We didn't have the green thing in our day. Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throwaway kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right; we didn't have the  green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of  buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then.
Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.

Isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?

Sandra, hooray for your friend -- passing that along.  It is right too.  I had it better and still do but I'm old enough to remember helping my Mom fill up the laundry tubs that sat on a special metal frame right next to the wringer washing machine.  I remember having to take a wet rag out and wash the clothes lines and also having some wooden poles to hold the lines up when there were a lot of wet, heavy sheets and towels and clothes on them.

I also remember having linoleum and tile floors  in our house ( carpet was too expensive and would have gotten far, far too dirty ) and scrubbing them and then using paste wax applied while you were on your knees and then having to buff the floor afterwards.

I can't begin to imagine how many buckets of coal my sister and I carried to the house.  Later we got a stoker coal furnace and  the much smaller chunks ( all uniform in size ) were much easier to carry.  The house looked better because it wasn't necessary to leave a couple of buckets of coal sitting by the stove to be tossed in at the proper time.  Also -- no clinkers to remove.

We went out to the well ( it was actually on the neighbor's property ) and pumped water for anything that we did that required water -- including our drinking water.  We had a galvanized metal bucket which we took out and filled -- then brought back to the cabinet stand in the kitchen and put the galvanized dipper back in.  The four of us used it any time we needed a drink and anyone ( lots of neighborhood kids ) who came into the house thirsty would go to the kitchen for a drink.  And we are all lived through this experience of communal drinking pails all over town.

We had paper dolls and after awhile, we learned how to use the doll to measure with --- we made clothes for her. Colored them with our crayons and just thought we had it happening.

Hopscotch was big and my friend could draw the hopscotch boxes so well in the dirt.  So uniform.  We also had home-made stilts that we would stand up on the ground next to us while we were standing on our porch -- then just just step on the foot pad and take off walking on them.

Yes -- we had it easy then and all of us kids at a certain age looked for the few people who might on occasion throw out a soda bottle -- because we could turn it in and get a bunch of penny candy.  Walked every where and actually my family did not have a car until I was in the 7th. grade.  The car was not used a whole lot -- we still walked a lot more than rode.  The car was used to go to town once every week or two and get groceries.  Dr. appts. and  things like that.  We never just went for a ride -- there had to be a purpose.

Brought back lots of memories here.

Shuf we all know fat has got to be good for something  --  lots of us keep plenty of it around.  I myself have 24 pounds extra and that is if I'm being kind to myself -- at least 6 more should come off of this shrinking frame.  I think I'm not as tall as I used to be ---seems to have fallen down and spread out in fat -- EEK !!!!

Shuf I'll be thinking of you and sending lots of positive energies your way so all will go well with you.

Still raining here....Dh says there are soppy puddles everywhere.  Sounds awful.  Hope it quits by morning, but the weather report sure didn't think it would.  Stay dry and warm everyone.

Hi did not get through all of the posts. I just can't seem to keep up. We leave the house at 7:00 AM to get DGD to school on time and go to the broom shop. Some days we go out to the camper behind the shop and take a nap and then get breakfast. DGD is going to Los Cruces, NM to spend Thanksgiving

with her brother and his family. She has been missing him.

Believe me our life has changed, she is a good kid.

I LOVED that Sandra! Yes, I remember so much of that.... You too, Jackie! Plastic anything was a luxury! I still save the heavy plastic that "things" come in... Actually I save a lot of needless stuff.... I don't know why, but like my Grandma, I always think "someday I will use this!"

You know what she used to do? After Grampa passed away, Grandma found a piece of Styrofoam out in the alley, and brought it in, set it on her little table, and decorated it with her christmas things! She stuck all kinds of ornaments, sticks, candy-canes, and set a little Nativity scene on it! I think she found most of her "treasures" from someone's old discards! She was so "proud" of her "stuff!"

    I think that's why I "save" everything!

Yes Shuff.... we'll be thinking of you! Just don't worry... You will look back on this, and it will just be a memory!...... Just one more hurdle you jumped!

    Well, I shouldn't say "jumped".... I should say "flew-over!"

Jackie, do what you can to have good travel weather for us in IL on Wed.  We'll be picking up a rental car today.  My Camry has 115,000 mi. on it and dh doesn't like to risk a breakdown during Thanksgiving week.  I wonder if he doesn't just like to drive a different car!

Shuf, I will be thinking about you tomorrow as we travel about 8 hrs. and then stop at a motel.  On Wed. we'll have a shorter day to Decatur, IL, to dh's sister's house.  About 5 hrs.   This year we actually get to stay at her house since her son isn't coming for Thanksgiving.  He lives in Seattle and started a new job.  He'll probably come for Christmas.  Most years we have to stay in a motel room.

No need for heat this morning.  The thermostat shows 70 degrees in the house.  The sun has come out and it is looking nice outside.

Wishing everyone a good Monday.  I'll be catching up on laundry and getting ready to travel tomorrow.
