A couple of weeks ago I posted here and you guys were of great help (I copied post below this).  I had an appointment with an OBGYN to check back in on my "lump" and she had to cancel. Now I have 3 days left to wait and worry. I have been a nervous wreck.  I can't focus, my stomach is a mess and I've lost about 5 lbs in the last 2 weeks. My menstrual cycle is out of whack and I've had 2 periods this month.  I think I have checked my breast so often I now have a pain in the area although I can't feel the "lumpy" spot anymore. I guess I am asking for prayers and advice.  Are these side effects normal anxiety?  Now I am more worried something is wrong.

OLD POST 36 years old, A couple of days prior to my period, I happen to feel an thicker lump in my breast, went to urgent care doctor who I knew since my regular doctor was out and she agreed and sent me to get mammogram and ultrasound. Both came back negative and Braids 1.  When I went back to see my regular doctor, without even looking at my breast or report said I needed to see a surgeon?  No history of issues.  He has made me a nervous wreck. I still think it feels thicker, maybe but my not sure since I'm so nervous with his suggestion to see surgeon.   Should I just relax since both test were okay?

    Clowery2000-

We're so sorry your appointment got pushed back! We now how stressful the waiting can be, and it sounds like your anxiety level is through the roof right now! The symptoms you described definitely sound like they can be attributed to your heightened stress surrounding the lump in your breast. We know how hard it is, but the best thing you can do right now is try and relax! There's nothing you can do to speed up time, so instead of worrying yourself sick for the next 2 days, try to do something this weekend to take your mind off it. Easier said than done, we know, but do try! And keep us posted with how your appointment goes, we'll be thinking of you!

The symptoms you have definitely can be stressed related.

When I was waiting for biopsy results, I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat anything until about 1 PM or I would throw it back up. I couldn't concentrate on anything.

You have a lot of company in your stress symptoms.

By the way, the same thing happened to me. Eight years ago, I went in for a routine mammogram. It was classified BIRADS 3 (something there but probably benign). My primary care physician wasn't happy; she sent me right back in for a compression mammogram and an ultrasound. Both those came back with something there but probably benign.

Again, my doctor wasn't happy and insisted I go in for a biopsy. I did and the rest is history. A small aggressive IDC was found.

I am not saying this will be your outcome, but rather your doctor, just like mine was, is looking out for your best interests. Because my doctor wouldn't accept the BIRADs 3, my cancer was found very early and this was for the best.

If no cancer had been found, I was spared the worry of waiting for the next mammogram and wondering if something was there.

You will get an answer, and either way, the stress will either be gone or greatly reduced once you know what is in store for you.
