Anybody had recurrence while on Armidex
Just curious if anybody has had recurrence while taking Armidex. If so, how long after orig. diagnosis was it.

Good question and good news that noone has posted in the affirmative yet

Racy, that is what I was hoping the non responses meant. I have been reading they even think it may shrink tumors people already have and I guess I"m looking for something to boost my confidence that being stage 1, grade 1 and now taking Armidex, maybe I'll be ok.

I got a second primary tumor that was discovered on my first mammogram after tumor #1. Exactly one year to the day later. I call it my Groundhog Day.
The second tumor was weakly ER+ but flipped to being TN when the oncotype was performed. So I am still on Arimidex and have SOOOO many side effects. Cancer Sucks
-
So, was the new primary in the same breast or the opposite breast?
-
I know someone that got off Arimidex after 5 years and was told she was still cancer free. One month later, she found a lump and it was a reccurrance and she was put back on the Arimidex for another 5 years.
-
cowgal, thanks. Sounds like its sure worth the few side effects I'm having.

Hi Angelia,
The first tumor was on the left in which I had a lumpectomy, rads, and arimidex. The second tumor was on the right side so I said th heck with breasts. I had a BMX, chemo, and still on arimidex for tumor #1.

you are what I fear. I read where it is rare to have cancer in both breast but I worry about that very thing because I did have to have a biopsy on both sides, so had questions on both sides. I had mastectomy but only on right side. I will be having my first mammogram on the natural side in December. Dreading that.
-
Good luck with your mammogram, Angelia! I think we all start to worry as tests fall due but chances are you'll be ok.
I assume you are still seeing your doctors regularly and they are examining you between scans. This is good insurance as well.
Don't hesitate to ask your docs any questions whenever you see them. Their answers can be reassuring.
And stay in touch here also!

I remember my surgeon suggesting that I have another lumpectomy on the right side (2nd cancer). I looked at him and said " so I can fear mammograms for the rest of my life?" I believe my case is in the low % of patients that have recurrences, but there must be some unknown trigger in my body that loves to switch on cancer cells. Please talk with your doctors and hopefully they can give you information and statistics to alleviate your worries. Please do not let my situation cause you needless worry.

Racy, oh, I am still in reconstruction so I see doctors ALL the time. Just saw oncologist last week. I was due to have a mammogram in Feb. that would have been 6 months from the mastectomy but I am having exchange and a lift on that natural side in December so I requested to move that mammogram up to be sure the natural side had no issues BEFORE the lift, not to mention, the idea of having a mammogram on a breast that just had surgery 2 months prior was not something I wanted to deal with.
-
Hi Angelia - after a left mastectomy, reconstruction and chemo I was put on Arimidex for approx two and a half years. I had all the bad side effects until the last few months when I started to get severe shortness of breath. A CT Scan and biopsy confirmed a recurrence, stage 3C. Forgot to mention that my oncotype was 45% for a recurrence. I wish you much success on Arimidex and hopefully very few side effects!

After six years from original diagnosis, I had a local recurrence. I had a double mastectomy in 2008-2009 with reconstruction, chemo and five years on aromasin. I finished up my five years on aromasin in January 2014 and in September 2014 ( lump found in June 2014) was diagnosed with a very small recurrence. I had a biopsy to confirm recurrence and an excision and am cancer fee now. Oncologist is recommending chemo again with another five years on AI. All doctors are recommending radiation which I did not have the first time. This recurrence was very, very small with breast surgeon and oncologist both having difficulty finding it without my help. I originally found it while in the shower. I have a wonderful relationship with my oncologist but am questioning the need for chemo again. Breast surgeon thought radiation only. Trying to educate myself and make the most informed decision. Anybody else in my shoes? Would love to hear your story.

SusanAnn,you are my nightmare. Sounds like your first cancer was small, no nodes and ER, everything that looked as my MO calls it "favorable" but still, it came back. What grade was your orig. cancer? What was your age at that time?
-
Angelia my original cancer was Grade 2 and I was 64 years old.Based on my oncotype results which by the way were 42% not 45%, I always felt like it was just a matter of time before it came back.
-
SusanAnn, I had asked about age because I had read where it was more likely the younger you are. Mine is grade 1 and I"m 58.

Hi
Anastrozole
I have had breast Ca 3 x. Stage 1 less than 1 cm both times. Estrogen+ progesterone- her 2-.
This time I was told her2 + Estrogen+ but Im currently on herceptin
Chemotherapy also completed July this year.
Only 2 mos after its back, Now in the skin where breast once was.
Now Aromasin. They suggest more radiation for skin recurrence. I've had Rads the first time ugh.
-
Yes. It came back after 4 years, in the lymph nodes on the same side. Based on the work up, doctor thinks that AI may have worked for the first couple of years. Oncotype was very low intermediate, 13% chance of recurrence. Guess I lost the lottery.
-
nred2002, did it go any place else besides the lymhnodes? I see your tagline says stage four...
-
Yes, bones. And lymph nodes not just in the axilla (that's the biggest one that the onc picked up manually), but also in the chest (subcarinal, hilar etc) and one stray one in the pelvic region.
