Breast cancer cells found in my mom's uterus

Options

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer 11 years ago. She had a lumpectomy and 5 lymph nodes removed. She then went through both chemo and radiation. On Monday, she had a total hysterectomy as the doctor thought she had a rare sarcoma of the uterus. When they did the biopsy, they informed my mom that they were wrong with their initial suspicions, and the cells were breast cancer cells. The doctor told my mom she had never seen breast cancer spread to the uterus and she thinks that it means it has metastasized. They are sendingmy mom to now see a breast specialist. Has anyone else heard of this? My family is scared to death, and we cannot seem to get any real answers yet

Dear spartan308, welcome to BCO and we are sorry to hear of your mother's situation.

Kayb has given some great advice. A breast cancer specialist is the logical choice to deal with breast cancer cells and develop a treatment plan. The list for the questions you want answered at the appointment is very important.

They will only have real answers after more specific tests and examinations and we sympathise for the horrible waiting periods - not pleasant.

We wish your mother the best.

ILC type breast cancer (if that's what it is) does seem to have a higher risk of spreading to female organs and not so rare at all. It's a good thing she had a hysterectomy and maybe that will be the end of it. I'd find a breast cancer oncologist, reputable, and go from there. Hopefully the cells were limited to her uterus and nothing more will be needed. Hugs.
