Stage III Cancer Survivors .... 10+ Years and Out

hi. I'm new to this site. This is very encouraging. 

Im foreign and my mum doesn't speak English so I made this account for her.

I hope to hear more positive stories to help her out because cancer has really made her sad and disencouraged.

I will be a 10 year survivor in Feb. of 2015. As I write that ,I am almost in disbelief ! Never in a million years would I have imagined myself this far "on the OTHER side " !  Yes, ladies, it is possible and I vote for keeping this topic as more and more of us will be breaking the barrier of long term survival !

I had a tumor approximately 7.5 cm and 22/22 positive nodes. So,if I can offer anything it is this : always remember "your best chance to get it right is the first time" . Find a specialist ( surgeon/oncologist)who deals with BC on a daily basis. Listen , discuss and plan with them your treatment.....and hit that cancer with everything in their arsenal....that they feel will benefit your situation. Pray . ( that should be in the #1 spot ) . Come to this community of women who can support you.. each and every day and night through your journey.  

Remember,you are stronger than you will ever know. ....I pray that each of you will stand where I am today and feel that no, your life is not over but just beginning.

Meow, these are the posts I need to read. You can wander around on these boards and get depressed by some of the topics and the posts within. I need to stick to my favs!

Texgirl...thank you, thank you, thank you for coming back and challenging us to live strong!! I can remember thinking through some of the darkest times of treatment..I can't believe I am living this. You're right you will find you are stronger than you think!!

Congrats on almost 10 years!! And I agree this is a very important topic....Stage III 10+ years out!!!

I'm closing in on 12 years the day after tomorrow. When I was diagnosed my onc was horrified by the large tumor--8 cm--the layer of lobular lcis underneath it, the size of my 5 positive nodes that were encircled with tumors.  My Ki-67 was 70%.

Yes, you are right Momine, my recovery and subsequent remission owe a lot to my recipe for Margaritas: You dump one large can of frozen limeade in a large pitcher, add one Corona beer, some 7-Up and then fill the empty limeade can with tequila, possibly several times. Mix well and stir in some organic ice cubes. This recipe comprises most of the major food groups: First of all, it is absolutely vegetarian. The limeade has a good deal of Vitamin C, the beer is full of hops and other healthy grains, and the tequila is derived from the sturdy Cactus plant.( Admittedly the 7-Up doesn't have much going for it except that, you remember when you were sick with the stomach flu or the measles, your mother brought you 7-Up and you felt much better? I rest my case about the 7-Up.)The finished drink itself fills your body's need for that "Curiously Green Group" which has its own RDA.  I make this drink in the largest pitcher I own, the same one I use to water my geraniums in the summer, multiply it by seven, and serve it to my girlfriends every November 22 as we toast my continuing success.

Other than imbibing the above health libation, I am not a good example of survivorhood. I do exercise every day and recently have been on a bit of a diet and lost 20 pounds. However, I have only been doing this since March of 2014.Previous to that I winged it with lots of chocolate and red wine. Am also an advocate for a big honkin' dose of melatonin every night so the bed stops flying around.
