Swollen lymph node or tight muscles in neck?

Options

I have this swollen pain in my neck that feels like swelling. It almost feels like a knot on a muscle and is tender to the touch. When I am lying down relaxed, you can't feel it, but when I move my neck certain ways I can feel it by pressing in on my neck. I was just getting a massage and my therapist felt it too when she moved my neck to the side but not when I was relaxed. She said both sides of my neck were very tight and when she rubbed her hand down the muscle it was sore to the touch. It doesn't feel like a hard round nodule more like a swollen area. I am getting over a cold from the weekend and I was using these neck muscles to help get up the phlegm (I know tmi)! So what do you think I should do??

My advice is to see your doctor, if you're worried. It could be just a knot/tight muscle, if it doesn't feel like a lymph node. Nodes in the neck can swell with a cold. When I have a cold I have one on the left side of my neck that gets a little bigger but never really gets sore. I can always feel it though because my neck is skinny, but it's not firm and it moves. My husband and I both had a head and chest cold that lasted a few weeks, and we both still cough off and on and the phlegm is frustrating! Keep us posted. Try not to worry!

P.S., don't cough so hard. Haha! Just kidding.
