Radiation costs out of pocket?

My wife is setting up a flexible spending account for her health care in 2015. She'll only have 4 more chemo treatments and then she'll start radiation. We're trying to figure out how much money should we put in the HSA. Our chemo is 40$ copay per visit, plus any prescriptions she needs.

She will have 5-6 weeks of radiation where she goes 5 times a week. Will she have a 40$ copay every day for radiation? Just trying to get a ballpark number of how much we could expect to pay for 6 weeks of radiation.

I know everybody's plan is different, but i'm just looking for info. We live in TN.

thanks.

Look at your policy and see what is your max out of pocket cost. I didn't have radiation but had other things done but my max out of pocket was $3,500 so once I incurred that much, my insurance pretty well paid everything else.

My only radiation co-pay was a one-time doctor consult. The rest of the consults were coded as followup, but you will need to read your own policy. These things really vary from policy to policy.

I had a co-pay each time, but they billed it once a week. The days I saw the radiologist it was only one co-pay. When we found out I needed radiation we switched to a plan that had $25 co-pays for radiation (our old plan was $50) and it was worth the cost of the plan since I had so many other doctors appointments too.

By the time I got to radiation, I had met my out of pocket so didn't have any cost for radiation. As everyone said, check with your insurance company and see what they will pay.
