Clean mammogram almost five years out
Five years ago next January I was diagnosed with DCIS. I was terrified: understanding the diagnosis, finding the right doctors, making the right treatment decisions. I had a lumpectomy with radiation and am on tamoxifen. I told myself when I made that decision that I wouldn't spend the rest of my life worrying about cancer. And for the most part I don't. But every year a few days before mammogram time, I tend to fall apart. I suppose it will always be this way. BUT other than that, I do not let DCIS run my life. I just wanted to let people who are in the stressful stage of diagnosis know that eventually it becomes the past and your life does move on.

I am 3 years out, at first I always thought I would look at my life through a cancer lens. But as time goes by its on my mind less and less.....except around mamo time.

Congrats on 5 years! I am 2 years out and still get a little freaked out around mamo time, but I know that with each passing year it will get easier.

congrats to you! Five years out and no recurrence. I'm so happy for you. I just had my 2year mammogram done and just received a call from my dr.'s office to come in for a consult. Needless to say I'm scared to death. Has anyone else been in this position and if so how did you handle it? anxiously waiting Sandi
