OK ....so I am very happy today, no walkies but 3 hours planting daffys and fall clean up in yard. It was sunny and cold but I enjoyed the fresh air so much that I came in after dark. The street lights gave me enough light to poke around in the yard.
Proud. That's so good to hear the Claritin is working. Yah moving dust in the house will flare up sinus. I was at my old moms with her old junk moving it around and the dust gave me snotty nose all day. I know it's not a cold because my energy level is up.
Glennie, just so excited to see you progressing. I always have to start small or I end up tearing a muscle, shin splints, or spraining something. I start out a snails pace and then I don't hurt myself. My phsyio said I have floppy joints and hurt my soft tissues easy so I have to be careful. plus I am so clumsy.
Carol, Warm Texas sounds really delightful. I know you will love it! I can't believe your talking snow. We are really cold here and tonight it will feel like -8 which is pretty much unheard of in our neck of the woods. I still have about 15 bright yellow dahlias but will loose them I am sure by tomorrow. I have snow shoes and tried twice. I get really sore hips. It's like I am spreading my hips to far apart to avoid the shoes from clashing when I walk. What a, I doing wrong? I want to try them again when I go for a night over in the mountains while the kids ski this Dec.
Glennie, When I did try the snowshoeing I went around a small lake about 1/2 mile. It was sooooo quiet and all I heard were my snowshoes and the glistening snow was sooo pretty, but I was by myself on the trail and got scared that I would get lost so I beetled back to lodge. Next time I will have a partner.
-
oh dear...'warm Texas' isn't so warm after all! A frosty 38 degrees this morning. Cold weather is stalking me. Will walk anyway!
-
hugz, the walk around the lake sounds nice! I can understand being a bit nervous being alone.
I have to admit that I hate starting so slow. I did 5 lb bent rows yesterday, and I KNOW I was doing much heavier back in the days when I was working out with a trainer. Don't want to look back at record book tho, as I fear it will make me depressed. I will just keep plodding on,,,,
-
hugz, I agree on getting a tad nervous when walking or such alone, I used to cycle with another woman that I had actually met on a bike path (we were the same age) and I remember being on a really nice bike path but we both realized that we would not have wanted to do it alone. We were surrounded by woods and such. Course, cell phones can help in crisis but hope not needed.
Today is an off day for me for the gym but I plan on a trip to the coast and a shore front lunch, I need a treat! and lunch looking at the ocean is a real upper to me -
A few years ago, I was out walking in the woods with Ava, when she suddenly turned and snarled at something!! Now, she is a dog that never barks, so to hear her snarl was really different!! I did not see anything and had no idea what she snarled at,, but we picked up the pace and headed back to the starting point pronto!! It was a week day and no people around, so we have not done that again!
-
lebed opening and weights.
recum. bike 15 min 3.08 miles
Arc trainer 15 min 0.62 miles Woot!!
-
well 30 minutes on stationary bike, 15 min exercising my jaw muscles and 15 minutes strething
-
Proud. Exercising jaw as in eating chocolate I hope.
Paperwork stole my exercise program yesterday. Ugh
-
Hugz, I have to try that exercise as I jabber away with every one!
-
I hate it when I'm traveling too much, not only because I don't exercise as I should, but I have a hard time keeping up with my LE forum friends! Twelve flights in the past twelve days, six days with a good number of speedy steps but six days, not so many. I think I got two strength training sessions in. Off again this Sunday, and I have to say, ladies, that thinking about this forum at least keeps me focused on the NEED to find a way to work the exercise in. You are all my Jiminy Cricket!
Glennie and Proud, keep up the great work. Hugz, I hope you can put that paperwork in its proper place!
-
Walked the 2 mile Turkey Trot. 39 min! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! -
glennie, good for you! Must have made eating a nice, big dinner more enjoyable--no guilt
-
gee no Turkey Trot for me but heading out to the gym as it will be packed~~need to get back on track after a few days off
-
I'm away from home for another two weeks, hopping between work and family visits. Exercise? Super hard to work in, I'm finding out. I ran around a lot today with my grandchldren, hoping that counts for something
-
Dida couple walks but sheesh I need to step it up a bit
-
Hugz, that about sums it up for me, too: got to find time and place for exercise. I'm stretching in my hotel room each night, but the morning-to-night work duties and meetings are a real exercise killer.
-
I'll be traveling the last week of this month and I always FAIL at keeping up a routine on vacation. Hoping to do better this time,,, Wondering how you do it, Carol!!! I know you are working, not on vacation,, but all the travel must interrupt your usual routinue -
OK Girls. I forced my self to do walkies and I L O V E D I T! Someone just needs to push me out the door. Where is that little red devil with the fork hanging around when you need him
Carol, Thats not like you to not walk. I hope you are getting a few walks at the airport.
The rest of you. Give me 5 of anything! Well 5 of any kind of exercise.
-
hugz, I am in one place--downtown Atlanta--teaching classes all day, with dinner meetings each evening. Not a good formula for exercise! I need to be somewhere at 7:30 a.m. until about 8:30 pm. I guess I could get up to exercise at 5:30....but I'm pooped! Next week will be about the same, but after that,I will have my routine back, thank goodness!
-
Ok Carol. We are looking forward to your exercise reports. They are so stimulating. I have had a hard time lately.
How about the rest of you. Shall we try to get some exercise in before all that ham, turkey, stuffing at the end of the month. I am tied to the desk for last couple days but yearn to get out there. Maybe I will pick up my hoola hoop for indoors. It't a great cardio and your hips will love yah! Carol the hoola hoop is detachable and great for travel. I wonder how it would be on your dang knees though? They are about 30 bucks. Ok that's it. I AM HOOLA HOOPING TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I'm in a bit of a funk, I think it's the Prozac,,, I'm trying to get used to it. I did go to the gym and walk on the treadmill for 30 mins yesterday and I did all my PT exercises. Did the Lebed opening yesterday and today. -
Glennie that's fantastic. Keep it up and soon that exercise will help you get you out of your funk. You are so inspirational and dedicated. Now I gotta hoola hoop for sure!
-
I should get out my hoola hoop! It is the old kind,, not detachable, but I can still do it,,, sort of,,, -
Hmmm, I was a hula hoop flunk-out. Never could get the hang of it, though I tried, I tried! Any secrets to success?
I'm happy to report that I'm still hanging in there with the jogging and tossing corks, though there are by now so many corks that I've started cutting them up to put in my house-plant pots--helps hold the moisture. Or, browsing through Pinterest, I see it's possible to make a bulletin board out of them, clustering them all into a picture frame (without the glass, of course) and using, uh, corkboard pins to attach notes. So there you go--healthy exercise and a craft project all in one!
Onward!
Binney -
Yah Glennie try it. It will poop you out quick and get you breathing. Ok. I sign off now and go get mine. You too!
-
So, I saw the orthopedist today and he said I have advanced end-stage arthritis in my right hip and need to have a hip replacement. I guess the pain I have been dealing with that has kept me off the walking paths had a reason. I am hoping to limp through until summer before surgery as I have a trip to VA Beach for as Army graduation in February for my daughter, then the other daughter's wedding in March, and the end of the school year craziness. Guess no summer camp for me. On the positive side, my fellow PT at my office had her hip replaced 2 years ago and said it was the best move she could have made in terms of decreased pain and increased function. In the meantime, I guess stretching and gentle water exercise may be my best bet for a few months.
-
Laural, sorry you will need the surgery but at my gym today, one woman was talking about her hip replacements and said they were also very helpful to her. She had been in a wheelchair before the surgery so do get yours taken care of~~
-
Laurel, Its nice that you have a answer to your hip problem and can proceed to a better life by summer. Maybe some pain meds even though I hate the thought of them may tamp down some of your issues and it won't be long before summer. We will miss your camp posts as you are so great at swimming and keeping active there.
My doc had his done and loves his new hip.
I DID MY HOOLA HOOPING. 15 min tuckered me out. I believe it gets me breathing heavier than a fast walk. My hoop is weighted and it makes all the difference. I feel it is easier to keep up.

I would like to know more about Lebeds DVD, what where and how.
-
http://www.gohealthysteps.com/
Susan, here's a link to the Lebed Method. You can also find her vids on YouTube. I can't link them right now, cuz I'm on my work computer and YouTube is blocked. She has a DVD and you can also find all the Opening exercises on YouTube so that you can watch them before you decide if you want to buy the DVD or not.
