Hi, I'm 32 and BRCA1 positive.  My doctor wants me to have a hysterectomy and/or ovaries removed a early as next month!  I just don't know what to do.  While we are done having kids, I am worried of the side effects.  I don't want to go through menopause this young.  I don't want a bladder sling.  I am worried about the recovery time.  then there is time off work.  So much to think about!  I am looking for advise from people who are or have been in my situation.  Thanks ladies.

You will find age guidelines for preventative measures there as well. Do not rush into anything. You have time to research and plan and make important choices.

I'm so sorry you are here too. I gave a lot of thought to what I'd do if my tests came back positive, but I'm a lot older than you, so no advice from me other than to say you might want to consult a genetic counselor if you haven't done so already. They can explain a lot of things to you, things you need to know and things your surgeons probably don't think about telling you.

    I mommy,

I am 36 and BRCA1 pos. My bs and geneticist both agree that I need to have my ovaries out, but they said any time before age 40 is fine. You may want to look for a second opinion or just make an informed choice NOT to do it yet even though your doc said to.

I second FORCE being a great resource!

Thank you for your information. I just noticed that you and I have the same DX AND TREATMENT.

Do you know if it is still possible to have children after our kind of treatment ?

    Thank you so much
