OK....I have never made desserts in the crockpot.......let alone a PIE!!!!
So my share for Turkey day is crock pie.
2 shares one if you want to do your own crust and one if you do not.

WOW! T TY for the compliment......I cannot compare with the originator of this thread, but I do like to try new recipes and share if they work out well.
I am so in love with that show. The kids are so supportive of each other and all the more I never knew kids that age could be so talented and inspired. (and inspirational). I adore Oona (sp?) she is 9yo I believe.

hello everyone, great recipes and ideas! Had a busy summer with garden, farm markets, traveling and family. I love being a Grandma even though I don't see her much in person, we do face time and skype and she is beginning to recognize my voice and face. We are teaching her to ply cards already!she was here late September and we go see her in Vegas for Thanksgiving. Lots of apples right now, one of my favorites is scalloped apples, you peel apples, slice into casserole dish, add cinnamon and brown sugar to taste, if you have apple juice or cider add a little just a tablespoon or so you can also use water, dot with butter for 3 apples I use maybe a tablespoon, bake until soft. A nice dish to make when you Re using the oven. Best warm but good cold too.

Good pizza, we use spelt four, sub spelt for flour in your favorite crust recipe or use all purpose flour, we take our onion, peppers, mushrooms and lightly sauté, add our sauce, cool. Roll out pizza add cooled sauce, your favorite cheese this one is Monterey Jack and Romano and the topped with local polish sausage. Bake on high 475 on a stone or in a pan.

I have my second batch of sauerkraut brewing on the kitchen counter so far I think it will be better than the first! We make a yummy for your tummy salad with it, diced red peppers or any color, diced onion or shallots, fresh sauerkraut (non processed) a bit of sugar. We try to have a few bites everyday to add goodies for your digestive system.

Hey! Happy Fall Season to All! So good to see everyone and of course, the recipes and photos. Carolynn79 has more than a pumpkin in her patch...what a beautiful grandchild!
I've stressed over posting photos here, but it is much easier than I remembered. So, here is the 43 lb pumpkin that I grew in the garden...the only one on the vine! So I rendered it to puree. The next day, a friend came by to help me make over 75 ravioli with 1 kg or puree, 250 g. Parmesan, 25 g of crushed almond biscotti and 1 ginger snap, cinnamon, and nutmeg pinches (Lombardia recipe called for amaretto cookies). Pies, breads to follow.
My sons are coming for Thanksgiving and requested the following menu: polenta with red sauce and sausage, pizza cooked in the pizza oven, ravioli, pumpkin pie and pecan pie...turkey sandwiches for the following day. So I ordered a free range 12 lb turkey, bought the flour for the pizza and I'm looking of a pecan pie recipe.
The other pic is caprese salad...can you believe that these heritage tomatoes came off the vine at the beginning of November! That was the end of the ripened tomatoes. We finished the lettuce and peppers just last week. The chill arrived to the air.

Marilyn, welcome back. If I lived on the West Coast I'd invite myself to your Thanksgiving dinner! You and your hubby are always amazing with your gardens and dishes.
Carolynn: Your scalloped apples sounds wonderful==I am always looking for a warm winter dessert. but more important, your grandbaby is adorable....what a wonderful little pumpkin she is.
I'm afraid that I live right down town and this year planted nothing. But I always enjoy seeing what you talented ladies do!

Thanks for your wonderful baby comments she is a cutie and really enjoy her! I love this time of year, I can play in the kitchen with all my canned, and garden goodies. In the summer I sell at farm markets and am really busy but I like it. Mandy hopefully you have a good market to get good produce. Today we will have pork chops, I have them in brine, will roll in spelt bread crumbs, and bake, baked sweet potatoes, green beans and applesauce. I made the applesauce yesterday very sweet and no added sugar I bought a half bushel of mixed apples that were marked down I froze some. The sweet potatoes are from the garden as are the beans we froze and canned some. We made apple cider earlier this fall and I use it a lot in cooking. I added to the apples when I cooked them, I also have cooked sweet potatoes in it, makes a great mash, no butter just add salt and pepper! Allhave a great day.

Teka--Yes, and I thought of you when I made them. Roasted the pumpkin seeds and they were the best ever! I soaked them in lightly salted water first, then onto a paper lined baking pan, drizzled olive oil and a smidge more of sea salt...roasted for 20 min. They went fast! The turkey is coming from Natural Grocer...I forget the per lb. price. I'll let you know. The per meal price is not so bad though...main course one day, sandwiches the next couple of days, soup until Christmas...it's a bargain!
Mandy1313--You'd be welcomed to join us! We are grateful for our garden and it is an integral part of our lives. In spite of a very difficult year for us, the garden was a constant source of comfort. We planted many experiments to learn from our new environment. Now, I'm looking forward to next year's garden!
Carolynn79--Apple season is upon us! I share your love of this time of the year in the kitchen. I make the applesauce without sugar too and always add cinnamon. We found some apples that are similar to those I used in Italy that turn to sauce in 15 min. Our farmers markets end soon and will be missed. They are more than shopping for food, they are a social event! I didn't save my garden produce for the winter...I bought the jars but never found the time. Next year I'll be more prepared I hope. Oh, and your pizza looks scrumptious. We bought a 00 flour online. I'm looking to local mills to give us better prices. Then I tried a recipe that called for the dough to rest for 8-10 hours before using...a big difference in flavor. I also learned to have the yeast and flour at room temp before I mix. Ps. I'm loving the Kitchen Aid mixer...getting the hang of it :-)
Sandpiper--that pumpkin desert sounded very interesting. I'd give that a whirl.
Does anyone have a good pecan pie recipe? I've never made one and #1 son says it's his favorite.

Teka--I googled and found one in Epicurious "Old Fashioned Pecan Pie". I think I'll not use the corn syrup. I remember a day when Karo syrup was the gold standard for mothers to add to water for the baby bottle. These days over 80% of corn in this country is GMO. Instead of corn syrup, I'll use organic maple syrup then follow the rest of the recipe. This should be interesting. :-)

the maple should work well, I use it in many recipes as we have lots that we pro due in the spring. Going to make some bread tomorrow, it is one part light rye, one part whole grain spelt and 2 part King Arthur Sir Galahad it is a al purpose but very good. I use sea salt, maple, olive oil, yeast and water.

vegetable beef soup, I take two days to make mine, first day cut onions carrots celery in large chunks, add to Dutch oven that is hot with your favorite fat in it, I used a combination of duck and bacon once seated remove from pan, salt and pepper a couple of large beef soup bones and sear, add vegetables back to it. Add water too just below the top of the meat and vegetables I then add a package of dry onion soup mix or some beef base. I bring to a boil, put in oven at 275 and cook all day covered at least 6 hours, you can also use a crock pot but I like the cast iron Dutch oven. Remove form oven let cool a bit then remove all solids, strain so all the broth is saved, take and bone out the meat I throw out the vegetables as they have flavored the broth all day. Put into the fridge overnight, defat, I sauté celery, carrots, what other veggies I may have, kohlrabi, turnip etc, add broth, one quart of tomato juice, other veggies like chard, peas, beans maybe corn and some barley bring to a boil then simmer a couple of hours. Sounds like a lot of work but it is really good and make a big batch and freeze some. The beef goes in the soup too or save for a casserole or BBQ beef, I usually use half in soup and half for BBQ but we have lots of meaty soup bones as we raise our own beef.
