When to start chemo

Cookies, you have to wait until the wounds from your surgery are totally healed.  Chemo suppresses your immune system, and if you start chemo with an open wound and it becomes infected for any reason, it would be far more serious than if you weren't on chemo.

Up until recently, the research showed that there was no difference in outcome for those who waited 6, 9 and 12 weeks.  However, very recent research concluded that there is a difference in outcome based on subsets.  In other words, the more advanced your dx is, the more important it is to start chemo as soon as possible.  So the bottom line is, wait until your wound is healed, but not any longer than you have to.  Your oncologist will be your best guide.    (((Hugs)))  Deanna
