White blood cells in tumour

Hello ladies and any gents

I made my first post last week, quite a long one! One of the points I highlighted was that TNBC gets the bad press. No one wants breast cancer, least of all TNBC. However the results of the METABRIC study actually suggest that TNBC doesn't carry the worst prognosis.

Indeed one set (or cluster as the study terms it) of breast cancers are characterised by the presence of lymphocytes (white blood cells) in the tumour and despite being TN, have a very good prognosis. Did anyone get told detailed features about their tumour? Was anyone told they had white blood cells in the tumour?

Also, as everyone here knows, although TN likes to reoccur quickly,  once you go past that 5 year mark that risk significantly reduces.  After 8 years you may even be considered cured. There are things you can do to reduce that risk, exercise and diet. Another thread was started today with a link to a study showing that doing over the recommended 2.5hours exercise per week reduced risk by 25%

thank you for the encouraging post! What would you recommend we ask about our tumors as far as details?

    Hi Agatha

I hope you are doing well.

I think its difficult to recommend that one should ask anything else about their tumours at this stage. The research study i mentioned did some very detailed genetic analysis, which at this stage isn't practical for routine medicine, although I'm sure as we move towards the era of personalised medicine, specific genetic detailing will be performed. But it would be interesting to know how many women had pathology reports that detailed white blood cells in their tumours. I've spoken with three seperate oncologists now, and all three had differing views as to the significance of this!

    Sending you hugs and prayers
