Radiation before or after implant insert?

Hi, 

I had bilateral mastectomy in May, with tissue expanders and 16 rounds of chemo which I completed on Tuesday!!  My Charleston plastic surgeon wants me to go through the 5 weeks of radiation, wait 4-5 mos and then do the implant swap.  After reading about the method at Sloan, I see that they are doing implant swap pre radiation for more natural looking results.  Has anyone gone through the pre radiation swap and can speak to their results?  My radiation onc has no opinion either way and I'm sick of these expanders but I also want long term natural results.  Thank you in advance!

    hi! 

    If it is any consolation I had my BMX with expanders Jan 29, finished chemo end of August and start 6 weeks rads on Monday.  I was really hoping for stage 2 exchange end of October and my PS prefers exchange before rads.  However we all agreed that whatever the RO decided we would go with.  He prefers rads before exchange.  I will have my Espanders in for 1.5 years at time before rejoining the squishy side. Treatment trumping cosmetics but still keeping fingers crossed for a good result.  My PS said it was about 50/50 on PS preference on before or after rads...good luck to you!
