Thank you farmerlucy what a great post.

Just wanted to link the source that the link came from - it sounds like it is worth reading. In the book's synopsis I see echoes from many of the posts on BCO.

This post was very timely for me and it helped to read. I just had my diagnosis-cancerversary this past week and it was a real mixed bag of emotions for me and in my overly sensitive state, I felt like very few really "got" it. Because I made comments that I was going to try to do something fun/distracting/positive on the day I think people took that as a celebration, rather than trying to get out of my own head on a day that brings sadness to me. It doesn't mean I'm not happy to be around and to have put some distance between those dates, but the date marks a time when my life was forever changed.

I don't care how many times I say this. Being told to think/stay/be positive is a SLAP IN THE FACE in any event. How much more so to those who are suffering and when the chips are down. P.E.R.I.O.D. It's telling you to shape up. It's blaming YOU for everything. It's putting the onus on YOU to fix what you can't fix. It's an insidious expectation dumped on you. Not only that, the term itself is diametrically opposed and doesn't make sense. No amount of conjuring up presumption can turn it into something 100% sure. Hey, I'm positive I got cancer and that's it!
Thanks Farmer Lucy for finding this. A rare find that doesn't backtrack on the positive thinking garbage.

Thank you so much, Lucy.
I'm going to print that out and hand it to the next person who tells me I should 'embrace this journey' and 'look forward to the lessons it will teach me and the opportunity to change my life for the better.' Astonishingly enough, many of them are in the medical world.

Yes…so true, thanks for sharing this, we need to be who we are and not hide behind a smile to please the people who are around us…(((hugs)))

What a wonderful and accurate piece of writing. I too feel sad much of the time, I try not to be sad, but it is there and I need to acknowledge this to myself firstly, and then to others.
-
That is a beautiful piece about embracing sadness, thanks so much for sharing it farmerlucy.

Jill I just came across this thread. Thanks for posting it - it made me cry because it's so true.
Nancy
People ask me all the time how I am doing. I of course say I am doing fine when in reality I want to say how sick of this crap I am and how I so wish it would all go away. Sadness for sure.
