cami. - way too funny. Always love your attitude.

Hi all,
Haven't been to this board for a bit; lots of work and business travel have kept me somewhat quiet. I love love love Hyperbole and a Half's blog. I hadn't seen the pain chart one before My favourite one is her blog about moving with her dogs. When I need a good laugh, I go back and re-read it. It's beyond funny. She also has one on depression that is the best description of depression I've ever read. Not funny perhaps, but a good read nonetheless.
Cami - love RESPECT and your camera crew! Thanks for making me laugh!
Was reading a page of quotes with dark humour and loved this one:
Only two things in life are certain, death and that twinkies will out last you.
- Mark Franklin -
I had adored the idea of funeral party while one is still alive, watching the movie "The Weather Man".
Still, guess I am tired planning things so far.. I will probably let someone else do it for me.
Having lost many sisters from the boards, I feel gloomy.. May take a break.
Anyway the cremation option is quite reasonable, so that noone has to dust you off.. But not allowed in my religion. Yay ??!
Hugs
Ebru

Baahaahaahaa! Yes- I had a pee-ectomy about 8 weeks ago, and I think I had the same crew! Best of luck to you Camillegal!
-
Oh - Ebru! So sorry about your sister!!! A break is completely understandable, and sometimes very needed! We're here for you my friend!
-
surfdreams You rock! -
surfdreams, I think ebru was talking about losing bco sisters, not her actual sister.
Ebru, we were always told that cremation was against Jewish law too, however some of the more reformed sects are allowing it. I have to research it more because I don't understand what has changed. Take it easy.

You're right, Caryn. My apologies. After re-reading your post, Ebru - I see my mistake. Yes - and I'll admit that sometimes, reading some of the titles of some of the posts, I just can't click into them to read the rest, as it is too heartbreaking. We're still here for you our friend...our sister. Please don't be gone too long. You are one of my biggest rays of sunshine on these boards. Really, really, really love when you take us all on an outing or trip with you.
-
Brendatrue - that chart of pain 1-12 just made howl! The drawings were hilarious. So funny. I have to print that out and tape it to my desk.. wow so true. Thanks for posting that. I haven't read some of the posts in a while Thanks!

Ok, this has long been one of my all time favourite comedy routines. My mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were librarians. The two most frequently used sentences at our house were: look it up in the dictionary, and look it up in the thesaurus. Closely followed by look it up in the encyclopedia and look it up in the card catalog. So I am a bit of a thesaurus junkie. I think I want this played at my memorial service. Hope it gives you a grin.

Ebru,
I'm a fairly new participant on these boards. In the past couple of weeks I've experienced my first deaths of BCO sisters. I found myself wondering if participating was good for me or not. It really surprised me how much it hurt to loose people I had never met. They weren't symbolic losses, I really felt pain and sadness. I struggled for a bit: do I keep checking in or signing off for good? Some days I find such strength and support here. Then I remembered what I have to remind myself over and over again: one day at a time! If it's too painful I can sign off and stay off for days or until tomorrow whatever works. Whatever works best today.
I'm with Surfdreams...you are a huge ray of sunshine for us. Just remember that you are our friend, sunshine or gloom! We are here for you.
Peace,
Virginia

kiwi,
Laugh out loud funny! Love it. I wonder how family and friends would feel if we played it for them!
Thanks
Nel
-
Nel - my husband alternated between ignoring me, looking at me like I'd lost the plot and glaring. I saw it years ago and it stuck with me due to the thesaurus connection. Glad it made you laugh.
It is hard to lose our sisters here and the pain is real although we've never met. And some days, it's just too hard to be here. But the support keeps me coming back. And the hope that I get from the people here makes it worthwhile.
All we can do is take it one day at a time. I wrote an article that was in the newspaper here and the line they picked up on was "I look death in the face every day and laugh". If I didn't laugh, I'd go stark raving mad - it's my coping mechanism. So coming to this particular part of the discussion board and seeing that there are others who share my sometimes warped sense of humour really helps!
Hugs to all,
Terre -
Cami, Surfdreams, kiwi/Terre--thanks for the laughs! I love that I can find humor in this thread when I most need it. When Ebru started the quotes thread, I think I added the Jimmy Buffett line, "If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane." So, Kiwi/Terre and all others who share a weird, wacky, dark, or whatever you want to call it sense of humor--you know, the kind that makes others look twice at you or move away as quickly as possible--I'm glad to know you're out there. Thanks for keeping this thread going!

Kiwicat, no one told me there was going to be moss muffins!!!!😯
As many as I can eat/enjoy/grow/fertilize - not sure what my role will be at that time....wonder if scattered ashes get moss muffins.
-
Brendatrue - Love that Buffett line too and so true for me!
SophieJean - LOL! Moss Muffins indeed. I hope to grow mushrooms myself.

Laugh out loud funny. Thank you surf dreams

Love both of your recent posts Surfdreams. Hot flash indeed.
My friend Stacey had rectal cancer. She got radiation for it. When the tech told her how much, she said, "wow! That's a butt load of radiation!" I may have to steal your box picture and send it to her!

Surfdreams LOL

Love your friend's humor, Kiwicatmom! ;-)

On the death and dying strand the topic of flowery obits came up and I don't want to offend cause it really gave me a couple of marvellous ideas.
I could write my own flowery obit - just to annoy folk. Think of what I could say ... Sophie was especially fond of magnesium as a laxative and maintained outstanding regularity as a result .... Or Sophie collected enough lint from her navel to stuff a pillow....
I come from cowboy country where the writing and sharing (and for me hearing) of funeral cowboy poems is one of my delicious delights. I never though to include a few till this moment...
Oh give me a home
Where the angels do roam
And the clouds are all doggies at play
....not sure where to go from here... Will think on it ....

I picked up the phone today ( thought it was the pharmacy) and heard a chirpy voice on the other end start to go into a spiel about a cancer charity without pausing to take a breath. I finally talked over her her and said, "you HAVE to stop NOW!" She stopped. "I have cancer and we donate money and I don't want to get this call again!" Very long pause....ok - I'll put you on the do not call list. And I triumphantly hung up.
I think I scared the crap out of her, but boy, did that feel good!

This thread has been mighty quiet lately. However, I absolutely have to share this somewhere and this seems like the best place. My mother and I had a running joke about Hello Kitty, so I'm quite fond of Hello Kitty as it reminds me of laughing with Mom. I am also a HUGE Douglas Adams fan (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and so on...). Someone posted this on their facebook page and I instantly fell in love with it. Made me laugh out loud. Of course, given my diagnosis, no one else will laugh at it with me. At any rate, I may have changed my mind on not having some form of headstone somewhere.
-
Kiwi -
Hilarious!!! Douglas Adams AND hello kitty. What could be better?? Makes me think about what silliness I want on my headstone. Hopefully not too soon....
-
So the good cancer news. So although I have developed some neuropathy in my feet, my recovery from foot surgery. Less feeling in my feet = less pain in the recovery process. So Yay, I think!! If I don't laugh I might lose my mind. And my new response when folks ask me how long I will be in treatment "To infinity and beyond, .......I hope!"
Hope all have a good weekend.
