Weekly Taxol and low blood counts

Did any of you doing weekly taxol have this?  Just wondering.  I just had my third weekly taxol and I was comparing my blood counts from each week.  They keep going down.  My MO told me they will give me neupogen shots to keep me on track if necessary. My counts were ok but I have a feeling they won't be next time. I don't want to have to skip any treatments.  Did any of you experience this?

Thanks Nancy

Hi Nancy-  Its good that you are watching your blood counts because an informed patient is a good patient.  Your MO has parameters that they use to determine if you can stay on treatment but your desire to stay on track should not trump your health.  Yes, you can bump your wbc with neupogen.  Keep in mind if you are low (wbc) you are more prone to infection so this time of year stay away from sick people and lots of hand washing.  There is a point you may be neutropenic and should modify your diet.  Its a dance.  You can do it.  Unfortunately, you don't have a lot of control over your wbc count but you do with your rbc and that is keep your protein level high.  This may not be what you want to hear but getting thru the tunnel to the other side if the goal.  I wish you success.

I had Neulasta during 4 DD A/C and had no issues with blood counts at all.   I didn't have any shots while on 12 weekly Taxol and all my counts stay up with the exception on of potassium.  1/2 way through it plummeted and after almost 5 years I still have to take mega, doses of,it,keep it up in the 'normal range.

thanks ladies.  I have a feeling I will be getting neupogen for treatment #4.  I know they look at absolute neutrophil count and mine before this treatment was 2.11 so when I go in for treatment next time it will be lower.  My HCG is still good at 12.4 but again will be lower next time.

Kicks I never considered potassium as a potential to go down.  Ugh the joys of chemo.  I am handling the taxol extremely well I think except for the darn blood counts.
