Fibrocystic breast tissue and pain....

I have dense, fibrocystic breasts but in one breast, have 2 fibroadenomas and multiple cysts. I have had severe pain in this same breast for the last almost 2 years. And the pain has never moved from one particular spot. The first doctor told me I am too young for cancer, being in my 30's and the "second opinion" told me if I have pain I do not have cancer. No tests done, just his opinion. The pain is so severe that I can only wear a sports bra and at times cannot even sleep on that side. There is also swelling in that breast.

So I guess my question is, how much pain do fibrocystic breasts cause? And is it usually only one?

It is not accurate for someone to tell a woman in their 30s that they are too young for breast cancer.  In the SEER study info, of the total number of women who were diagnosed with breast cancer,  1.8% were  aged 20-34, and 9.3% were aged 35-44.

However, in one survey, about half of the USA female population has experienced breast pain at some point or another.  In one survey, 10% of symptomatic women reported that breast pain was an issue for over half of their life.   In one survey, about 11% of symptomatic women described their breast pain as moderate or severe.

Breast pain is usually NOT a symptom of breast cancer.  But I don't wish pain on anyone.

Quiet1 - I am 31 and I, too, have recently gone to see my doctor about consistent breast pain in both. He explained that breast cancer is not painful like fibrocystic breasts. He found a 4+cm lump in my left breast and a smaller on in my right. It gets so painful that I don't even take my bra off. Doctor has me seeing a specialist on Monday for a diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound. He said that this could be cysts, but to be safe, we are doing all testing necessary to rule out cancer. I have cancer and cysts on both sides of the family, so I'm just nervous to see what the results are going to be.
