I'm a newbie to all this medical lingo. Can anybody tell me what " she's triple negative" means? My mass was discovered during a routine breast MRI, that wasn't there when I had my mammogram in May. I was going to look through all the threads, until I found something but don't know if I can wait that long, lol! There is a lot of information here for me to read, which I'm so thankful for. My treatment is suppose to start with chemo, but still awaiting more data. I'm trying to stay positive and keep in my routine as much as possible. Thanks!

Hi Ladybug - triple negative means that the cancer was negative in being receptive to estrogen and progesterone and negative for HER2.  I believe there is a thread on here dedicated to TN.

Staying positive and having a good support system is really important!  Once you start your treatment plan, it will get easier both mentally and physically.

Hi Ladybug! There is a Triple Negative forum here and it's great as this whole forum is. Sorry about your diagnosis. It will get better once your docs and you have a plan in place. Try to keep your routine and stay off of Dr. Google. HUGS

    Hi Ladybug,

In addition to the helpful post from your fellow members, you can read lots of great information on this topic on the main Breastcancer.org site's section on Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, including what it means, how it's treated, and new research.

Also, the Triple Negative forum referenced above is located here:

    We hope this helps!

Hi Ladybug, came across your post today....last year at this time I also found out I had triple negative breast cancer also. There is a thread on here that has some very wonderful and informative women on it who are also highly supportive. Sometimes it gets scary when you hear that it is aggressive but you are on the right path with staying positive and having chemo first. I had a PET scan first which also showed that I had lymph node involvement so it had spread. I had 8 chemo treatments, 4 DD of A/C and 4 DD of taxol after which they did another PET scan which showed no evidence of cancer anywhere!!! Although chemo was no walk in the park it was very doable and not too bad once you learn how to deal with any of the side effects. I then went on to have surgery which I opted for a lumpectomy. My surgeon said as long as he got good margins that was fine but if not then he would go back and do a mastectomy. My margins were good and he took 12 or 15 (can't even remember how many) lymph nodes which all were neg and I had just one tiny pencil dot of cancer in the tumor that he removed. Last month I finally finished my radiation tx. Thank God everything looks good so far as I begin all my follow ups this year. Stay on here...ask questions, don't think any question is dumb or not relevant we all have been there and these ladies know their stuff!!! My biggest side effect to chemo actually was constipation but they give you plenty of meds to combat any and all side effects and I learned to start taking a stool softener on the first day of chemo and did not wait the second round. I am so sorry you are here but glad you found us...you will find a lot of comfort, support, information and love here and before you know it you will be at the end of this long and frightening journey. Good luck to you my sister!!!
