Hello,  I don't know if I am officially dx however, I felt a lump that just sprung up. I check myself when showering. Got a mammogram T series test( Sorry forgot the name of it)  They asked me to return in the afternoon for a sonogram. I spoke with the doctor and I have cancer, the doctor wanted to me see the surgeon yesterday if that was possible. They were able to get me an appt with a surgeon they highly recommend, and I knew of her through through friends. She was off Monday and couldn't see me till next week Weds. The office manager actually texted her at her home to get me in for Tues, and they blocked out the  afternoon on Tues to do the biopsy's  The doctor told me that the lump was cancer, and that there appeared to be other involvements in the breast.  My mental state at the moment is strange, I just feel numb, flat.  I know its bad, but at this point don't how bad. I have no family history of breast cancer, or any cancer on both sides of my family.. However, as soon as I felt that lump I knew.  Finding this board has been very helpful, I know little about breast cancer except the awful side effects of chemo.

    Hello Lisa TS, I am so sorry you have had to come here.  I am a little confused with your post, you aren't sure if you have been officially Dx?You haven't even had a biopsy yet, have you ? Certainly the Doctor may have suspicions about a mass you've found, but till it has been Dx by pathology, you really aren't officially Dx. There are many things this could be and the majority aren't even BC. Keep that front of mind!

    I can totally understand you feeling numb, that's very normal, when you have had your world turned upside down! Try to take it easy, don't google and wait to find out exactly what is going on, when you see the Surgeon.

    It is a very scary time, but come here if you need support and if you want to ask questions. We have all been where you are now, but until you have a definitive answer, don't get bogged down worrying about treatments that you quite possibly won't need. Hugs to you! Let us know how you get on.

    Deep breaths.

    Yup, its not 100% certain it is cancer until you have a positive biopsy, although your doctor sounds pretty certain. And even if biopsy confirms cancer, you don't get the full picture re grade and stage until further testing, often not until the tumour is removed. 

    If they can remove it by lumpectomy or by mastectomy, it may be followed by targetted  therapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or any combination of the above ... or none! It all depends on the pathology, but even if it is cancer, and you do need chemotherapy, you know, it IS doable, and most of us survive it, although it is not pleasant. 

    For now though, you don't know, you simply don't know, which in itself is absolutely nerve racking, hence the deep breathing advice! Get through the next few weeks or however long before you get the full picture, and a plan, then pull on your best big girl panties, and feel free to use whatever support and information available on these boards, meanwhile trying to resist the lure of Dr Google!!
