Surgeons performing direct to implant in NYC
Hi ladies,
I have been trying to find a plastic surgeon with experience performing direct to implant (one step) with Alloderm breast reconstruction. I live in NYC and want to stay in this area. I found a couple of surgeons that perform this procedure, but have little experience with this method and with using Alloderm. One doctor told me he would probably end up using expanders. It seems that direct to implant is not as common as expanders, and even in NYC it is difficult to find EXPERIENCED surgeons using this method of reconstruction. Have any of you NYC ladies had direct to implant, and are you happy with your results and overall experience? Who was your plastic and breast surgeons, and what hospital did you have your surgery?
I am hoping to have my surgery in summer 2014 and have yet to find my surgeons! Help!

The pioneer of direct-to-implant with Alloderm, Dr. Salzberg, is right at your doorstep. He performs surgery out of Dobbs Ferry and usually works with Dr. Ashikari. He has been doing it several years and has done many, many of these surgeries and has trained other in it. Many years ago, he was only one really doing it and women on FORCE doing prophylactic surgery were flying across country to see him (much like women do with NOLA). Needless to say, he is very experienced! He is also reportedly a very kind man, etc.

DTI is not AS common as TEs but fortunately there are more surgeons who do do it now, and are experienced in it, but you do still have to look for surgeons who are experienced in it. You are, however, very lucky as, like I said, you have the pioneer right nearby!

Thank you, DiveCat, for your reply. I am aware of Dr. Ashikari and Dr. Salzberg and that they practice in Westchester County. I would prefer to find a surgeon who performs DTI in NYC, if at all possible.

Are you still looking for info? If so, I'll PM you.

Hi,
I am interested in finding information on plastic surgeons in the NYC area who do one step breast reconstruction. Bonus points if they also are willing to do fat grafting (lipofiling) in addition to the implant.
I am willing to see someone in Westchester and even Long Island. I want to consult with at least 3 drs before I decide whom to go with. Dr. Salzberg unfortunately is out of network for my insurance so I wanted to see if there are any other drs in the area who do the same procedure.
I have Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (rare cancer syndrome) and I am looking to do a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy within the next year.
Thanks for you help!

I would check out Mia Talmor at Weill Cornell. She specializes in nipple sparing one-step reconstruction, and, I believe, has pioneered some of the cutting edge surgical techniques. Plus, she is a completely delightful person.

Thanks Momoschki for the recommendation! Even more bonus points if she is a delightful person

Yes, LOVE her! She has been a pioneer in this area. Smart AND compassionate. Plus, always promptly answers emails about any questions/issues that may arise. Good luck!

I would visit Dr. Arnold S. Breitbart in NYC or Manhasset. His reviews are the best I have seen. He has more than 20 years of experience. That is why my wife and I picked him. Just check out his before and afters - newyorkliposuction.com/photogallery.html.
