did anyone else have a swollen lymph in the armpit area?  Does this always mean that the cancer has spread?

I had two positive lymph nodes and neither were swollen.  Sudden swelling of a lymph node usually means it is fighting an infection so I wouldn't be too worried.  Definitely have it checked by a doctor.

At my first exam with my BS, she found a palpable swollen lymph node.  A FNB was done immediately and it was positive for cancer.  So I knew going into my BMX that I had at least one positive node, and that a full ALND would have to be done.  A total of 15 nodes were removed.  It turned out that the only positive one was the swollen one - the rest tested negative.

That was almost 7 years ago and I'm alive and kicking!  ;-D

msphil - congrats on the 20 years!!!
