Hi labelle, so sorry you're feeling anxious, but it goes with the territory:) There are many here who do believe in taking something for the anxiety and if you feel you need it, you should investigate it with your Doctor.

Come here and ask questions, it is a great place for support and advice. Take it easy and breathe!

I had to ask for it after many sleepless nights.  I told them later that the original call should go "the tests came back and you do have cancer...where would you like the prescription for Xanax called into?"

For me it took just a little edge off so I could continue to function that first month.  It does get better!  Hang in!

That's exactly what they should say, bcisnofun.

I've taken Xanax for years to travel (I have anxiety issues related to travel) and for periodic insomnia caused by anxiety. Basically, I've taken it 2-3 times a month for years. My doctor prescribes 50 tablet per year and that's been more than enough. Since being diagnosed on Sept 29 with invasive breast cancer, I'm popping one of those babies every night! Adding "get a script for a refill or three" to my to do list soon.

I thought of it as a very slight perk of being a cancer patient.  I used a half pill at work when I was feeling overly anxious and it helped me get through the day without making me zonk. Not trying to turn anyone into an addict (I don't take them anymore) but we shouldn't have to spend our days or nights sick with fear.  Thinking of you and wishing you peace and comfort.

my MO gave me ativan.  There were a 120 in the bottle and I have 3 refills.  Holy cow LOL. I used it nightly in the beginning but only occasionally now.  I also went on lexapro which has calmed me down a lot.  Stupid cancer I never took anything before and now look at me LOL.  It gets better though.

Yup, they gave me Ativan the day I was diagnosed (6 years ago) - used it a lot at the beginning but now rarely - script for 60 pills annually and don't actually use all of them - some times are worse than others but eventually you get through it all - pills should be offered to everyone day 1 as far as I am concerned.

It seems breast cancer does come with a bottomless bottle of Xanax afterall. Saw my GP yesterday and she wrote a script for enough Xanax to last me, my husband and all the pets forever, LOL. Not that I intend to take that many, but she warned me I might need them and told me if I started feeling depressed to let her know ASAP, that I might need something for that too. She hasn't been my GP for long, my previous one quit practicing last year to work fulltime for the VA, so I hadn't really seen her for anything other than annual blood work (cholesterol, lipids, screening). Nice to find out she's a very compassionate and understanding kind of medical provider.

hi.  I'm 59 and never took anything before I was diagnosed with BC.  Don't think I could get thru it without the help of Xanax.  Sure helps me sleep at night.
