Atelectasis in right lung - first sign of lung cancer?

Options

I know you all understand what it feels like to get diagnostic results and my latest report has my head spinning...so I thought I would check to see if anyone has any thoughts on what it means…I just got my chest X-ray results and the report mentions scarring and scattered atelectasis in my right middle lung. I never had that before. I have had several surgeries (haven't we all) so I know general anesthesia can cause some atelectasis and I had pneumonia a couple years before I was diagnosed with breast cancer? But I also heard that atelectasis can be the first sign of lung cancer…Appreciate any insight on the relationship of atelectasis to lung cancer mets…thanks much, Maureen1

    HI Maureen 1,

I also have atelactasis but had not heard that it could be a first sign of anything troublesome. My pulmonary doc seemed unconcerned about it. I do also have a spot on the same lung that hasnt grown and is assumed to be fibrosis from radiation. I hope you are ok and find the pulmonary doc is not concerned.

bevin…thanks so much for sharing your experience, it is reassuring to hear:) I hope I learn not to get rattled by every unexpected test result. I see my MO on Monday morning, guess I'll see what she has to say then. Thanks again for weighing in on this, Maureen
