Terminated because of cancer / looking for help
Hello,
I am a 36 year old that was diagnosed with triple negative stage 2 breast cancer, who has been terminated from employment because of my cancer diagnoses. I am located in the Bay Area, what I'm looking for is support and education for worker rights through out are nation. I would like to change how employers view Cancer, it is not a death sentence and employers should work with all employees regardless of time employed. My situation is not unique many employers don't look at our cancer as fighting for our lives there only concern is the bottom line and my goal is to change that.
If you would be willing to take a stand with me on the steps of San Francisco city hall or help with educational information it would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to do a press conference and put these employers on blast. I would need make 30 min for this, looking to do it in a week or two. Anything is something when you feel alone in your fight. I don't know if I'm doing this right I just know I need help.

Cynthia,
We're sorry to hear this news. You might be interested in checking out the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Recognizing and Responding to Discrimination at Work for information on actions you can take.
We hope this helps!

Cynthia,
I didn't think there were employers who still live in the dark ages and do terrible things like this to their employees. I am so sorry for you. I hope you can find someone (an attorney) perhaps who can take your case pro bono or recoup enough $ to be reimbursed without it costing you money out of your own pocket. Good luck -

Scroll down a few topics and read the article posted by cp regarding FMLA & ADA protections. Document all facts about the situation before you begin to forget the details: exactly what/who/when, etc.
If yours was a large employer, they might well have broken some laws. Smaller organizations are not required to provide the same accomodations but there may still be legal recouse as AmyQ suggests.

I agree, document everything. Also a personal injury lawyer should be willing to take your case. Then accept payment only if they win. Not costing you money! I have a workmans comp case pending based on health issues that arose from working around chemicals and that is the arrangement with my lawyer
best of luck, sorry as I am an East Coast person and best of luck
