Arimadex didn't stop her. Grand Canyon at about 2-1/2 miles below the rim.

So, I am embarrassed.... I was so self-consumed. Happy Birthday Special KI!!!!! Please tell us how you celebrated, please. And the ROO? Of course you want to too-nap that cute animal.

OMG, Nancy, that pic has me salivating!
Carole, your day sounds like a lot of fun....but yes, with all that kid and competitive energy, fatigue would be a likely by product!
Our lobster fest this afternoon was wonderful!
I have to say, that as this lake neighborhood has turned over, (we've been here for 27 years) we have gained the most lovely families, who are fun and community spirited...and their kids are just delightful. One of the guys is in the food business, and he started this lobster fest four years ago, and everyone (especially my DH!) has such a wonderful time...to say nothing of the satiation factor! Today there were a number of extra lobsters, and plenty of king crab legs, so we all went home, after lots of fun socializing, with our tummies quite full!
So DH and I took a rigorous walk afterwards, then came home and did some catch up Netflix viewing. We Are now caught up with The Knick (a dark, early 20th century NY hospital story).
With all this "pantry pressure" I'm feeling happy we converted ours into a breakfast area (needed to...no place to eat in the kitchen!) when we moved into our home 35 years ago. But I am dying to see your pix, Susan.

I think we are going to watch The Tuscan Sun, which I don't recall liking when it came out, but might now for the scenery. Does this read "escapist"?

-
Lacey, love the Knick, but boy is it dark!
-
Lacey, wouldn't it be easier if you came for lunch and reported back to the group? *susan*
-
I'd volunteer for that!
-
When will you arrive Nancy?
-
Susan, lunch at your home would be a meal worth traveling for.
-
Special - I can't remember if I added my felicitations for your Birthday. So hope it was happy.
Susan - you have had good reason to be distracted. I'm amazed by your energy.
First play of my Stages season here was Marie Antoinette by David Adjmi. NY premier was last season. Very interesting to consider the parallels in that society of 1789 and now. 0.5% were priests; 1.5% were noblemen and 98% was the commoners - the rest of the 23 million people in France. Clearly highlignts t the "us" and "them". She didn't really say "let them eat cake", but it's such a good line. And this is a food thread LOL.
Had a lovely dinner at an upscale Asian restaurant after - Cafe Ginger. I had their special Lo Main - shrimp, pork & chicken. And I ate every bite!!! Now my tummy is sorry but it was worth it.
-
susan & minus - thanks for the b-day wishes! I am a low-key birthday person, so didn't go all out. We went for Mexican food at a good restaurant close by, but by the time we got there I was feeling a bit sub-par so didn't actually eat. My DD and DH got me some balloons and flowers, and an extra large red velvet cupcake. I am not so much of a red velvet cupcake girl but I threw myself on the altar of self-sacrifice and ate it, lol! More sugar than I have eaten in the last year put together! The day after we went to see the roos, which was fun. I also got to see the gators and was even more relieved that the DD got to work with the roos instead!!!
auntie - awesome bear claws!
eric - wow on the hike! And great pic!
susan - you get a pass, no need to feel embarrassed - you were the MOB for goodness sake! And you cooked! And organized your pantry! And did all the other stuff you do! Not self absorbed - damn, woman you're just BUSY!!!!!
Here is a daily roo. He is getting a good scratch from the DD:
-
Eric, so impressive! Thank you for the encouragement...and thanks to Sharon!
OK....when your schedule calms down, Susan, I am all for lunch from the famous pantry! And how about this wild idea......any of you sistas who are willing to sprout wings or wheels coming to "the bean"....I will pick you up and put you up and we will converge on "the pantry"....if that works for you, Susan....no pressure. Ha! Wouldn't that be fun! And we might arrange to meet our "founder" Laurie and JoyceK if they are free. Seriously, I can put up four folks.
Yes, Nancy, we are caught up on The Knick, and it is way dark!
Special, glad you were able to get that red velvet cupcake down.....equalizes your no sugar year!

Another sweet roo pic. And love the relaxed roo legs in the background....;)
-
lacey - yes, I was surprised I didn't collapse after the cupcake, lol! Those kangaroos have achieved a blissful state of relaxation bordering on unconsciousness - they don't even really open their eyes all the way - they look squinty and a little bit drunk much of the time. It is pretty amusing and I found that it relaxed me too, DH also - it was quite enjoyable to visit with them.
-
Bet that Roo is loving getting that scratching!
-
mommy - they do love it! They put their heads back like that and close their eyes. They also like to be fed by hand but they are very gentle about eating and they have tiny mouths that fit into the palm of your hand easily.
-
awwwwwwwwwwwwwww! that is so sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I know - I want one to keep at home with me, lol! I just need a little one.
Here is today's daily roo, I love his hands:
-
Tonight's dinner was red beans cooked with smoked ham hocks, steamed brown rice and a tossed salad with romaine, radicchio, cucumber, tomato, avocado, yellow bell pepper and feta cheese. Haven't cooked dry red beans in a while and they were really good.
-
Tonight is probably nothing at all. We ate so much at the Grand Canyon that, despite the walks, we probably gained weight.
-
Eric - great picture. Thanks for posting. One of my long term goals was to ride the donkeys to the bottom of the canyon. Probably not happening anymore, but I sure would like to at least see the Grand Canyon one day. I asked my brother what area they were in and he said "Deer Valley". Eventually I'll come to Phoenix to visit.

Today I turned 56. I used to let birthdays slide by, almost unnoticed. But, no longer. Nine and half years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Four and half years ago mets showed on a PET scan. A study using my breast tissue indicated that I had been living with these invasive cells for 12 years before that first diagnosis. I have been living with this disease, known and unknown, since I was 34.
The average life span after a mets diagnosis is just over 2 years. At this point I am an outlier. And so, I celebrate each and every birthday. And I reflect on the things that I have been here to celebrate and mourn. In the past nine years, I have buried both of my in-laws and my father. I outlived my dear Uncle who I cooked for for two years. I witnessed my daughter starting and graduating from college and graduate school, and starting her doctorate. Last week I watched her as she told a young man that she would love him forever. I have outlived a crushing recession that started as I was recovering from treatment and beat my business to a pulp. And yet, I held onto my house and the recession and cancer didn't win that one either. There is so much more, but I think more would bore you.
I tried to make dinner reservations about three weeks ago. Well, it is a three-day weekend. Not a reservation to be found at a restaurant that I wanted to go to. My standby has closed, and the other options were just plain full.
So, Plan B.... cook at home. Yesterday I went to Costco to get rack of lamb and they were on sale! Bought two racks since Mr. 02143 pretended that he didn't want me to do all this work for just two meals. HAH!!!! That man put away some chops. The chops were marinated in a complex sauce of cilantro, parsley, mint, soy sauce, lemon, red wine vinegar, chilis, honey, and I can't remember what else. Then I sautéed some spinach with garlic and the last of the cherry tomatoes from the garden. A perfect meal.
Happy Birthday to me!
-
susan - Happy Birthday to you indeed! It is my privilege to send that sentiment to you and you should absolutely celebrate every birthday, and all of the other days in the year also!
-
Oh dear... did that sound like I was full of self-pity? I am not. I am truly grateful for so many wonderful things in my life. If it weren't for these errant cells, my life would be pretty darn close to perfect. One of the great gifts of age is, I love my life. I am no longer full of what-ifs. This is the life I have. This is the life I live. And, on balance, it is damn good one.
*susan*
-
Happy birthday indeed Susan, here's to many more days full of the things you love!
-
Happy Birthday Susan. Sounds like a wonderful meal.
-
Sounds like you had a better birthday meal than you could ever find in any restaurant! Happy Happy Birthday, Susan!
-
Susan: I heard no self- pity, just celebration. I think that's what you meant - hooray for my life at this point and for what ever is to come. Very worth a celebration. Congratulations!!! The lamb sounds good but you are due a B-day dinner at your favorite restaurant in the next couple of weeks.
-
Happy birthday Susan!!!!!!!!!!!
-
